Modern Industrialization

A modern industrial mod for Minecraft.
Modern Industrialization is the tech mod that four chapters of To The Sky's quest book follow, from a hammer to quantum armor. You start on steam with bronze machines, make steel in a Steam Blast Furnace, then build the quarry, which is where the island's antimony comes from. Your first block is the Forge Hammer.

Getting started on the island
Your copper, tin and iron come from the sieve. Sifting gravel drops Copper Ore Chunks, Tin Ore Chunks and Iron Ore Chunks, along with lead and nickel. The sieve tables list every drop by mesh.
The first quest of the Modern Industrialization chapter asks for one copper ingot and gives you the MI Guidebook and a Wrench. This server does not hand out the guidebook when you join, so take it from the quest or craft it from a book in a ring of eight copper nuggets.
The Forge Hammer is three heavy weighted pressure plates over four iron ingots. It turns an ore into two raw ores, an ingot into dust, a brick into brick dust, and two ingots into a plate. Keep a hammer such as the Iron Hammer in the tool slot and it does better: three raw ores, one ingot per plate, and recipes that need the tool, at the cost of durability. The quest for the Forge Hammer asks for the machine and any MI hammer, and pays a Diamond Hammer.
- Sift gravel for copper, tin and iron.
- Make a Forge Hammer and a hammer, and claim the Diamond Hammer.
- Make bronze, a Bronze Boiler and the steam machines.
- Build a Coke Oven and a Steam Blast Furnace for steel.
- Build the Steam Quarry and run Bronze Drills in it for antimony.
- Mix lead and antimony into battery alloy and start the Electric Age.
Bronze, the boiler and the steam machines
Bronze is three parts copper to one part tin. To The Sky removes Modern Industrialization's own crafting recipe for bronze dust. Use All The Ores' recipe instead: three Copper Dust and one Tin Dust make four Bronze Dust. The tiny dust recipe still works by hand (three copper and one tin tiny dust make three), and the Mixer gives four dust from the same three and one. Smelt the dust into Bronze Ingots.
The Bronze Boiler is four bronze plates, a Bronze Tank, a furnace and three Fire Clay Bricks. Give it water and any furnace fuel. It heats up slowly, and at full heat it makes 8 mB of steam per tick and pushes it into the machines next to it. One millibucket of steam is one EU, and a bronze machine runs recipes of up to 2 EU/t, so one hot boiler drives four machines. In a hurry, smelt a water bucket into a Steam Bucket.
- Bronze Compressor
- One ingot to one plate, or a double ingot to two. Build it first: the boiler alone needs four plates.
- Bronze Mixer
- Better ratios for bronze, fire clay and uncooked steel dust. It also makes battery alloy later.
- Bronze Macerator
- A raw ore becomes one dust plus a 50% chance of a second. Its recipe takes two diamonds.
- Bronze Cutting Machine
- Better ratios for bolts, rods and rings. It uses a little lubricant on every craft.
- Bronze Furnace
- A furnace on steam, ten times cheaper in fuel than a normal one.
- Bronze Water Pump
- Surround it with water source blocks. Each one adds an eighth of a bucket every five seconds, up to one bucket every five seconds.
Fire clay comes from bricks. Hammer a brick into Brick Dust, then two clay balls and two brick dust craft three Fire Clay Dust, four in the Mixer. Smelt each dust into a Fire Clay Brick; four of those craft one Fire Clay Bricks block.
The pack also removes Modern Industrialization's crafting-table gears. Craft All The Ores gears instead, four ingots around an iron nugget, such as the Bronze Gear. A Bronze Machine Casing is eight bronze plates around one bronze gear. Right-click any steam machine with gunpowder to double its speed for two minutes.
Steel: the Coke Oven and the Steam Blast Furnace
Steel needs coke, and coke needs your first multiblock. A multiblock has a controller and hatches: all items, fluids and steam go in and out through the hatches. Hold a Wrench to see the missing blocks, or hold a hatch to see where it may go.
- Craft the Coke Oven: a furnace in a ring of eight Bricks blocks.
- Build a hollow 3 by 3 by 3 cube of Bricks around it: 21 Bricks, the controller and three hatches.
- Make the hatches: a hopper on a Bronze Machine Casing is a Bronze Item Input Hatch, a Bronze Tank on one is a Bronze Fluid Input Hatch. Craft an input hatch on its own to turn it into an output hatch.
- Fill the fluid hatch with steam and the item hatch with coal. Each coal becomes one Coke in 30 seconds at 2 EU/t. Half the runs, on average, also give 500 mB of creosote, kept only if you add a fluid output hatch. Coal dust goes straight to Coke Dust.
- Macerate the coke into coke dust. Seven iron dust and two coke dust craft seven Uncooked Steel Dust; the Mixer makes nine.
- Craft the Steam Blast Furnace: a blast furnace in a ring of eight Fire Clay Bricks. Its shape is the Coke Oven's with one more hollow layer on top, in 29 Fire Clay Bricks and the same three hatches.
- Each uncooked steel dust bakes into one steel ingot in 30 seconds at 2 EU/t.
On this server the steel comes out as All The Ores' Steel Ingot. Almost Unified hides Modern Industrialization's own steel, and MI's machine and part recipes ask for steel by its tag, so they take it. The Steam Blast Furnace runs its 3 and 4 EU/t recipes only with at least one steel hatch; steel itself needs none.
With steel, a Steel Machine Casing (eight steel plates around a steel gear) leads to the Steel Upgrade. Two come from one craft. Put an upgrade and a bronze machine in a crafting grid, or sneak and right-click the machine with it. A steel machine runs recipes up to 4 EU/t and works twice as fast; a Steel Boiler makes 16 mB of steam per tick. The Steel Packer, Steel Unpacker and Steel Wiremill exist only in steel.
The quarry, the drills and antimony
The Steam Quarry turns drills and steam into ores. Its controller is four steel large plates, an item pipe, two steel gears, an Invar Rotary Blade and a Steel Machine Casing. The frame is Steel Machine Casings with six Steel Pipe Machine Casings and a column of chains; hold a Wrench to see it. It takes an item input, a fluid input for steam and an item output. Use steel hatches: both drills it can run need 4 EU/t, twice what a steam multiblock allows with bronze hatches only.
Every run takes 30 seconds and rolls each output on its own. It may also use up the drill: a Bronze Drill goes once in 25 runs on average (4%), a Copper Drill once in ten. A Bronze Drill Head, two iron gears, an item pipe and a fluid pipe craft four Bronze Drills.
- Bronze Drill, 4 EU/t
- To The Sky's own table: iron ore 40%, coal ore 40%, tin ore 30%, lignite coal ore 24%, copper ore 20%, redstone ore 20%, gold ore 15%, osmium ore 12%, antimony ore 10%. The mod's own table has no antimony.
- Copper Drill, 4 EU/t
- Stone: 32 cobblestone half the time, plus dirt, gravel, diorite, andesite, granite, tuff and cobbled deepslate.
- Steel Drill, 12 EU/t
- Bauxite ore 40%, lead ore 25%, antimony ore 20%, quartz ore 20%, nickel ore 18%, diamond ore 12%, salt ore 12%, lapis ore 10%, emerald ore 10%, Powah's uraninite ore 8%.
- Gold Drill, 8 EU/t
- Nether blocks: netherrack, blackstone, basalt, soul sand and soil, magma, glowstone, nether quartz and nether gold ore, and ancient debris at 5%.
- Stainless Steel Drill, 32 EU/t
- Monazite ore 25%, tungsten ore 20%, titanium ore 15%, platinum ore 12%.
- Titanium Drill, 128 EU/t
- Mekanism's fluorite ore 30%, uranium ore 20%, iridium ore 5%.
To The Sky's quest book says the Steam Quarry takes Copper and Bronze Drills only. Everything above 4 EU/t runs in the Electric Quarry, which is the Steam Quarry crafted with four large motors, a robot arm, two electronic circuits and an Advanced Machine Hull. It keeps the same frame and takes an energy input hatch in place of steam.
Antimony ore smelts into one ingot. A Macerator gets more from it: the ore becomes three Raw Antimony, and each raw antimony one Antimony Dust plus a 50% chance of a second.
The Electric Age
The first electric machines, the steam turbine included, are built on a Basic Machine Hull: an analog circuit, two Redstone Batteries, a Steel Machine Casing and three tin cables. A Redstone Battery is a battery alloy plate, four battery alloy curved plates, two tin cables and two redstone. Battery alloy is one lead dust and one antimony dust in the Mixer, which gives two Battery Alloy Dust. So on the island the quarry comes before electricity.
- Mix coke dust with water into raw synthetic oil, bake it in the Steam Blast Furnace into synthetic oil, then mix 100 mB of it with a paper for two Rubber Sheets.
- Draw tin plates into wire in the Steel Wiremill (two wires per plate). Three wires and six rubber sheets make three Tin Cables.
- Build an Analog Circuit from a circuit board, resistors, capacitors, an inductor and copper wire.
- Smelt battery alloy dust into ingots, press them into plates and curved plates in the Compressor, and craft the Redstone Batteries and the hull.
- Feed an LV Steam Turbine from your boilers. It turns each millibucket of steam into one EU, up to 32 mB per tick.
An electric machine speeds itself up while it keeps running the same recipe, up to 32 EU/t, and a multiblock up to 128 EU/t. Upgrades raise the cap: a Basic Upgrade adds 2 EU/t, an Advanced Upgrade 16, a Turbo Upgrade 64 and a Highly Advanced Upgrade 512. Lubricant, from creosote and redstone in the Mixer, adds one tick of speed-up for every 25 mB you right-click into a machine.
An LV cable network takes in at most 256 EU/t, and single-block machines connect only to LV cables until an Advanced Machine Hull makes them MV. On this server Modern Industrialization trades power both ways with other mods' Forge Energy, at 10 FE for each EU, so a generator from another mod can run your machines.
Make several Assemblers early and give each one part: hulls, circuits, motors, pistons, robot arms, conveyors. The Electric Blast Furnace is a Basic Machine Hull and a blast furnace in seven magnetic cupronickel wires. Its frame is a layer of Heatproof Machine Casings, two hollow layers of Cupronickel Coils and another heatproof layer, with the controller at the bottom and an energy input hatch.
For aluminum, sifted gravel also drops Aluminum Ore Chunks, and All The Ores smelts aluminum dust in a plain furnace. In Modern Industrialization's own way, bauxite dust in the Electric Blast Furnace gives aluminum nuggets, and the Electrolyzer splits it into aluminum dust.
Big multiblocks and the late game
- Large Steam Boiler
- Up to 256 mB of steam per tick at full heat. It loses most of the heat it does not use, so run it flat out.
- Vacuum Freezer
- Cools the hot ingots the Electric Blast Furnace makes: stainless steel, titanium, kanthal and more.
- Oil Drilling Rig
- A quarry for fluids. An Aluminum Drill gives 500 mB of crude oil per run, a Copper Drill water, a Stainless Steel Drill shale oil.
- Distillation Tower
- Gives one output per layer; the Distillery gives only one.
- Implosion Compressor
- Uses Industrial TNT to press tungsten, beryllium, blastproof alloy and diamonds.
- Nuclear Reactor
- Hundreds of times the power of diesel, plus plutonium, deuterium and tritium. It cannot explode or harm the world; only what is inside it can burn up.
- Fusion Reactor
- Turns deuterium, tritium and helium-3 into helium plasma, the strongest fuel in the mod.
Stainless steel is six iron dust, one chromium, one nickel and one manganese dust in the Mixer, which gives nine stainless steel dust. The Electric Blast Furnace bakes it at 32 EU/t into a hot ingot, and the Vacuum Freezer cools that into a Stainless Steel Ingot.
The Replicator cannot be made on To The Sky. Its only recipe is in the Assembler, and the pack removes it. A Singularity in the Electrolyzer still makes UU matter, without being used up.
How it fits with the island's other mods
Almost Unified merges the metals several mods share. Modern Industrialization's own steel, bronze, tin, copper, iron and other ingots, dusts, plates, gears and ores are hidden, and you hold the All The Ores ones. MI's machine and part recipes take them, because they ask for the material by its tag.
The quarry feeds other mods too: osmium ore from the Bronze Drill for Mekanism, uraninite from the Steel Drill for Powah, fluorite from the Titanium Drill for Mekanism.
Extended Industrialization adds machines to the same tiers. Its Steel Alloy Smelter turns one tin and three copper, ingots or dust, into four bronze ingots at 4 EU/t, which skips the dust. The Processing Array runs up to 64 copies of a machine at once on this server, and the Large Steam Macerator and Large Steam Furnace process up to eight items per run.
The quest book has a Modern Industrialization group with four chapters: Steam Age: New Beginnings, Electric Age, Digital Age and The End Game. They follow the order of this page.
Questions
How do I get antimony in ATM10 To The Sky?
From Modern Industrialization's quarry. Run Bronze Drills in a Steam Quarry: To The Sky gives each run a 10% chance of antimony ore. In an Electric Quarry a Steel Drill gives 20%. A drill wears out about once in 25 runs.
How do I make steel in ATM10 To The Sky?
Burn coal into coke in a Coke Oven, macerate it, and craft seven iron dust with two coke dust into uncooked steel dust. A Steam Blast Furnace bakes each dust into one steel ingot. All The Ores also has a hand recipe: iron dust, four coal and an ore hammer give one steel dust to smelt.
Why can't I craft Modern Industrialization's bronze dust?
To The Sky removes that recipe. Three copper dust and one tin dust still make four bronze dust through All The Ores' recipe, tiny dusts still craft by hand, and the Mixer gives four.
Which drills work in the Steam Quarry?
Copper and Bronze Drills, both at 4 EU/t, and only with at least one steel hatch on the quarry. Steel, gold, stainless steel and titanium drills need the Electric Quarry.
Why won't my Coke Oven or Steam Blast Furnace start?
Hold a Wrench to see missing blocks. It needs an item input, an item output and a steam input hatch, steam in the fluid hatch, and for 3 and 4 EU/t recipes a steel hatch.
Can other mods' power run Modern Industrialization machines?
Yes on this server. Energy goes both ways between MI and Forge Energy, at 10 FE for 1 EU.
Is there a Replicator in ATM10 To The Sky?
No. The pack removes its only recipe, so it cannot be crafted.
Where do I get tin, lead and nickel on the island?
Sift gravel: it drops tin, lead, nickel, copper and iron ore chunks. The Bronze Drill also brings tin ore, and the Steel Drill lead and nickel ore.
