How to play Homestead with friends
There are five ways to play Homestead 2.0 with other people, and they go from free to a monthly bill. On every one of them you can share one farm. The difference is who keeps the server running and whether your base is still there next year.

The options, one by one
Playing Homestead together
Everybody lives in one world, so you can farm next door to each other or a long ride apart. Land is claimed with Open Parties and Claims: claim chunks from the world map, and nobody outside your party can break, build or open chests there. Each player can claim up to 500 chunks.
Make a party in the Open Parties and Claims menu (its key is under Controls) and invite your friends, and they can build on your claims as if they were theirs. The quest book is shared through FTB Teams: /ftbteams party create and a name, then /ftbteams party invite and your friend's name, and quests one of you finishes count for the team.
/home takes you back to the one home you set with /sethome, /tpa and a name asks to teleport to a friend, and /rtp drops you somewhere new when you want land of your own. When you die, your things wait in a grave where you fell.
Homestead is made by Tokimi and Meleon of CozyStudios. Its home is the CurseForge page, the official Homestead wiki has the authors' own guides, and their Discord is where to ask them about the pack.
Which one to pick
Two of you in the same house, for a weekend: Open to LAN. It costs nothing and takes a minute.
A group with its own rules, and somebody who enjoys running servers: rent one. You get every setting and the bill that comes with it.
You want to play with lots of people and pay nothing: a public server, as long as you're fine with starting again at the next wipe.
You want to play, not run anything, and keep the base: that's what we built. The Homestead world is one of four on one subscription. The join page shows the price and the four steps before you pay anything.
Coming as a group: one of you pays €19.99 a month and up to five of you play, which is €4.00 each for five and less than a rented server. The others join with a link, and the group page has the rules.
About the prices
The rented server is €20 a month because that's the floor we found for a machine that runs a modpack without stuttering, and big packs cost more. The four of you in the table pay that between you; on our group plan the same four pay €19.99 between them, for all four worlds. We don't name hosting companies: their prices change faster than this page does.
Questions
Can I play Homestead with friends for free?
Yes. Open to LAN works if you're on the same network, and a server on your own PC works for friends anywhere. Both stop when the host's computer does.
Does Homestead work in multiplayer?
Yes. Homestead 2.0 ships Open Parties and Claims for land and FTB Teams for the quest book, so a group can share a farm and its quests while strangers can't touch either.
How do we share a base in Homestead?
Make a party in the Open Parties and Claims menu and invite each other, then claim the land from the world map. Everybody in the party can build there. For shared quests, also make an FTB team with /ftbteams party create and invite the same people.
How much memory does a Homestead server need?
Ours starts at 6 GB and may use up to 8, the figures in the pack's own server files. That's for the server alone: everybody's game needs at least 8 GB on their own PC, and if the server runs on the same PC as a game, the two add up.
Do my friends need the same version of Homestead?
Yes, the exact one the server runs. The server compares mod lists when you connect, so a newer or older version gets turned away. Ours is Homestead - A Cozy Survival Experience 2.0.
Can Bedrock players join a Homestead server?
No. Homestead runs on Fabric, which is Minecraft: Java Edition only.
Is PrivateChunks a hosting company?
No. You can't rent a server from us or run your own pack here. It's four modded worlds, each its own server, that members play together, and one subscription opens all of them. About has who runs it.
