The options, one by one

  1. Open to LAN

    Free

Start a singleplayer world, press Open to LAN, and anyone on the same network can join it. That's the same house or the same Wi-Fi.

    Good for
Two or three people sitting in the same place for an evening.
    Watch out for
Nobody can play when the host isn't playing, and friends elsewhere can't connect at all.
  2. A server on your own PC

    Free, plus the electricity

Download the pack's server files, run them on your computer and open a port on your router. The server needs memory of its own: ours for To The Sky starts at 1 GB and may use up to 3 GB, and the game on the same PC needs its own on top.

    Good for
A small group with one person happy to leave a strong PC on.
    Watch out for
The world is offline whenever that PC is, and your friends connect to your home address.
  3. Rent a server

From about €20, more for bigger packs

A VPS or a game host runs it around the clock. You get full admin access: your mods, your rules, your config.

    Good for
A group with its own rules and somebody who likes running servers.
    Watch out for
Installs, updates, backups and the crash at three in the morning are yours. A second pack usually means a second server, or deleting the first.
  4. A public ATM10 To The Sky server

Free, but most have a shop

Find one on a server list and join. Somebody else runs it and pays for it.

    Good for
Playing with lots of people without paying anything.
    Watch out for
Strangers, paid ranks on most of them, and a wipe when the season or the pack version changes. Your base rarely survives a year.
  5. PrivateChunksours

€9.99 each, or €19.99 for up to five

Ours: three modded worlds, each its own server, ATM10 To The Sky among them. One subscription opens all of them, with up to 20 players per world. We do the hosting, updates and backups, and we don't reset worlds. A group of up to five can share one subscription: one of you pays €19.99 a month and the rest join with a link.

    Good for
Playing modded with a small group and keeping the base, without running anything.
    Watch out for
No admin access, and you don't pick the next pack alone: members vote on it. If you want root, rent a server.

Playing ATM10 To The Sky together

Everybody starts on the spawn island, which nobody can change. /skyblock create and a name makes your team and gives it an island of its own. Then /skyblock invite and a friend's name, and they type /skyblock accept and the team's name to join you.

Everyone in a team shares one island. /skyblock home takes you back to it, and /skyblock visit to another team's when they let visitors in. There are three minutes between teleports.

Leaving a team drops everything you're carrying, so empty your pockets on the island first. The starting items come when you join a team for the first time, and an island stays where it is even after its last player leaves.

Which one to pick

Two of you in the same house, for a weekend: Open to LAN. It costs nothing and takes a minute.

A group with its own rules, and somebody who enjoys running servers: rent one. You get every setting and the bill that comes with it.

You want to play with lots of people and pay nothing: a public server, as long as you're fine with starting again at the next wipe.

You want to play, not run anything, and keep the base: that's what we built. The ATM10 To The Sky world is one of three on one subscription. The join page shows the price and the four steps before you pay anything.

Coming as a group: one of you pays €19.99 a month and up to five of you play, which is €4.00 each for five and less than a rented server. The others join with a link, and the group page has the rules.

About the prices

The rented server is €20 a month because that's the floor we found for a machine that runs a modpack without stuttering, and big packs cost more. The four of you in the table pay that between you; on our group plan the same four pay €19.99 between them, for all three worlds. We don't name hosting companies: their prices change faster than this page does.

Questions

Can I play ATM10 To The Sky with friends for free?

Yes. Open to LAN works if you're on the same network, and a server on your own PC works for friends anywhere. Both stop when the host's computer does.

How do I share an island with a friend?

Make your team first with /skyblock create and a name, which gives it the island. Then type /skyblock invite and your friend's name, and they type /skyblock accept and your team's name. From then on you both live on one island.

How much memory does an ATM10 To The Sky server need?

Ours starts at 1 GB and may use up to 3 GB, with a few people on it. More players and more machines need more. That's for the server alone: everybody's game needs at least 8 GB on their own PC, and if the server runs on the same PC as a game, the two add up.

Do my friends need the same version of ATM10 To The Sky?

Yes, the exact one the server runs. The server compares mod lists when you connect, so a newer or older version gets turned away. Ours is All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.6.

Can Bedrock players join an ATM10 To The Sky server?

No. ATM10 To The Sky runs on NeoForge, which is Minecraft: Java Edition only.

Is PrivateChunks a hosting company?

No. You can't rent a server from us or run your own pack here. It's three modded worlds, each its own server, that members play together, and one subscription opens all of them. About has who runs it.
