Create

Technology that empowers the player.

Adds743

Create builds machines out of moving parts. A water wheel turns a shaft, the shaft turns cogs and belts, and the belts carry ore past presses, mixers, fans and saws that you can watch at work. Nothing runs on electricity: everything is rotation, and the whole skill of the mod is getting enough of it to the right place. It starts with Andesite Alloy.

Getting started

Two andesite and two iron nuggets (or zinc nuggets) make Andesite Alloy, the material of the first half of the mod. Two alloy make eight Shafts; a shaft and a plank make a Cogwheel, and another plank a Large Cogwheel. Right-click a stripped log with alloy and it becomes Andesite Casing, the body of most early machines.

A Water Wheel, planks around a shaft, set beside flowing water gives you your first rotation. Wear Engineer's Goggles from the start: looking at any part shows how fast it turns and how much load the network carries. A Wrench rotates parts and, with sneak, picks them up.

  • Make Andesite Alloy, shafts, cogs and Andesite Casing.
  • Build a water wheel and a Mechanical Press, and press iron, gold and copper ingots into sheets.
  • Add a Mixer over a Basin with a Blaze Burner, and mix copper and zinc into brass.
  • Make Precision Mechanisms and Electron Tubes, and the brass machines open up.

Rotation, speed and stress

Every part that turns belongs to a network, and the network has two numbers. Speed, in RPM, is set by the source and changed by gearing. Stress capacity is how much load the sources can carry, and every machine draws stress in proportion to how fast it spins. Go over capacity and the whole network stops, overstressed, until you add a source or slow something down.

Gearing
Cogwheels pass rotation to the cogs beside them, and each neighbour turns the other way. A large cog driving a small one doubles the speed; a small one driving a large one halves it.
Gearbox
Passes rotation round a corner in every direction at once.
Clutch and Gearshift
A clutch cuts the line while powered by redstone; a gearshift reverses it.
Rotation Speed Controller
Sets an exact speed, made from a Precision Mechanism and Brass Casing.
Sequenced Gearshift
Runs a timed list of turns on each redstone pulse, for doors and elevators.
Speedometer and Stressometer
Gauges you can read from across the room, and a comparator can read them as a signal.

Where the power comes from

Hand Crank
Hold right-click to turn it. Fine for testing a machine, nothing more.
Water Wheel
Turns in flowing water beside it. Covering more of its sides adds nothing.
Large Water Wheel
Half the speed of the small wheel and much more stress capacity. Planks around a water wheel.
Windmill Bearing
Glue at least eight sail-like blocks (sails, wool) to it and right-click: more sails, more speed. Works anywhere, no water needed.
Steam Engine
The strongest source. Placed on a boiler of Fluid Tanks with water piped in and heat under it, it drives a shaft. Blaze Burners raise the boiler's level, and each level runs one more engine at full power. The Goggles show the level and what is missing.

Processing machines

Most machines work on items placed under or in front of them: on a Depot, on a Mechanical Belt passing by, or thrown in. Put them in a row over a belt and an item is pressed, washed and cut on its way along.

Mechanical Press
Presses ingots into Iron, Golden and Copper Sheets, which the next machines need. Over a Basin it compacts: any full 2 by 2 or 3 by 3 crafting recipe, like nine nuggets into an ingot.
Mechanical Mixer
Over a Basin, it makes any shapeless crafting recipe and a few of its own. Some need heat from a Blaze Burner under the basin.
Basin
Holds items and fluids for the press and mixer. Results come out of a faucet into whatever is below it; without one they stay in the basin.
Blaze Burner
Heat for the basin. Use an Empty Blaze Burner on a blaze to catch it, then feed it anything that burns. A Blaze Cake superheats it.
Millstone
Grinds what you put in the top, like wheat into flour or flowers into dye. Slow, but cheap. It does not take ore.
Crushing Wheel
A pair turning into each other crush whatever falls between them, ore included, which the millstone cannot do. Made on the Mechanical Crafter.
Encased Fan
Blows items through what is in front of it. Through lava it smelts, through fire it smokes food, through water it washes, through soul fire it haunts. The fan's speed sets its reach, not how fast it works.
Mechanical Saw
Facing up, it cuts logs into planks and stone into stonecutter shapes; facing sideways, it fells trees.
Deployer
Acts like a player two blocks in front of it: places blocks, uses items, harvests, attacks. Over a depot or belt it applies its held item, which is how casings, sandpapering and assembly lines are automated. A Wrench switches it to left-click.
Spout and Item Drain
The spout fills items under it from a pipe (bottles, cakes, blaze cake); the drain empties items rolled across it into the pipe network.

Brass, Precision Mechanisms and the brass tier

Copper and zinc mixed in a heated basin make two brass ingots. Zinc comes from zinc ore, smelted or blasted. Brass on a stripped log is Brass Casing, and copper the same way makes Copper Casing for the fluid parts.

Rose Quartz is a quartz and eight redstone; Sand Paper polishes it, and polished rose quartz on an iron sheet is an Electron Tube. A Precision Mechanism is the mod's first assembly line: a golden sheet run five times past deployers holding a cogwheel, a large cogwheel and an iron nugget. Most of the time it comes out whole; sometimes it falls apart into scrap.

Mechanical Crafter
A wall of them crafts any recipe automatically, and the bigger Create recipes need one. Arrange their paths with the Wrench so they meet at one exit.
Mechanical Arm
Moves items between the targets you click before placing it, inputs blue and outputs yellow, in round robin or in order. Brass funnels as targets pass their filter to the arm.
Brass Funnel
Moves up to a stack at a time, with a filter. The andesite funnel moves one item.
Smart Chute
A chute with a filter and a stack size.

Ore doubling

Create's ore chain is crushing and then washing. A crushed ore smelts into one ingot, or washed by a fan through water gives nine nuggets plus a by-product: crushed raw iron also gives redstone three times in four. The gain is in the ore block itself. Crushed in a Crushing Wheel, an iron ore block gives one crushed ore and a 75% chance of a second, while raw iron gives one and an experience nugget. Mine with Silk Touch if you are processing with Create.

Moving items

Mechanical Belt
Six dried kelp. Click two shafts with it to join them, 2 to 20 blocks apart, flat, diagonal or vertical. Belts carry items and mobs, and the shafts along them all turn alike.
Depot
A one-block belt that stands still, for one machine at a time.
Andesite Funnel
Puts items into and takes them out of an inventory or a belt, one at a time.
Tunnels
Cover a belt. Andesite tunnels split one item off each stack to the sides; brass tunnels filter and spread items between belts, split, round robin or synchronised.
Chute
Drops items straight down between inventories. A fan at one end pushes them up instead.
Item Vault
Iron sheets around a barrel. Vaults placed together form one big inventory.

Create 6 adds packages. A Packager on a chest packs its items on a redstone signal and unpacks packages put into it; a sign on the packager writes an address on everything it sends. A Stock Link puts a packager's chest on a network with no range limit, a Stock Ticker lets you order from it, and a Factory Gauge keeps an item stocked by requesting what makes it. Chain Conveyors carry packages, and you, between them.

Fluids

Fluid Pipes carry fluids once a Mechanical Pump (a cog and a pipe) pushes them, up to 16 blocks from the pump whatever its speed; a faster pump moves more. Pumps on one network add up if they face the same way. Fluid Tanks (copper sheets and a barrel) stack into one larger tank and give a comparator signal. In survival you cannot fill or empty one by hand: use a basin, spout or drain.

Contraptions

A contraption is a group of blocks that moves together. Stick them to the moving part with Super Glue, and drills, saws, harvesters, ploughs and deployers on it keep working as it moves: that is how Create builds tunnel borers, tree farms and crop harvesters.

Mechanical Bearing
Rotates what is glued to it: windmills, doors, spinning farms.
Mechanical Piston
Pushes a structure out and back along piston poles.
Gantry Carriage
Runs a structure along a gantry shaft, for quarries and printers.
Rope Pulley and Elevator Pulley
Lower and raise a structure; the elevator stops at floors and can call itself.
Mechanical Drill
Breaks the block in front of it, faster the faster it turns. On a contraption it mines whatever it is driven into.
Mechanical Harvester and Plough
Harvest crops and till the ground as a contraption passes over.
Portable Storage Interface
Two of them, one or two blocks apart, let items move between a moving contraption and a fixed chest as it passes.
Contraption Controls
Switch the tools on a moving contraption on and off.

Trains

Train Track is made on an assembly line from sleepers, iron or zinc nuggets and a press. Click a track and then a second point to lay a whole run, a curve or a slope; blocks in your off hand are paved underneath. Train Casing is Brass Casing with a Sturdy Sheet, and it is the base of the rest.

  • Place a Train Station beside the track and switch it to assembly mode.
  • Use Train Casing on the track to make bogeys, and glue the body onto them.
  • Put Train Controls on board, a second set to leave stations both ways.
  • Assemble from the station screen, then right-click the controls to drive.

Fuel in a chest or barrel on the train makes it faster; fuel in a vault is not burned. A train can only be taken apart at a station. A schedule handed to any mob or blaze burner seated at the controls drives it for you, and signals keep scheduled trains apart: they never pass a signal from the wrong side unless a second signal faces the other way.

Tools and gear

Copper Backtank
Worn, it feeds air to Create's gear; placed and turned by a shaft, it fills up. The netherite one is upgraded at a smithing table.
Diving gear
The copper helmet and boots let you breathe and walk underwater on backtank air; the netherite set does the same in lava.
Extendo Grip
In the off hand, it greatly extends your reach, on backtank air instead of durability. Made on the Mechanical Crafter.
Potato Cannon
Fires food and other items from your inventory, on backtank air. Made on the Mechanical Crafter.
Wand of Symmetry
Mirrors every block you place while it is in your hotbar. Made on the Mechanical Crafter.
Redstone Link
Sends a redstone signal wirelessly to links set to the same two items.
Schematicannon
Builds a saved structure from the chests beside it. ATM10 removes its recipe, so on our server it cannot be crafted.

Questions

Why did my Create machines stop?

The network is overstressed: the machines on it draw more stress than its sources can carry. Look at any part with Engineer's Goggles to see both numbers, then add a source, or slow some machines down or move them to their own network.

How do I make brass in Create?

Put a copper ingot and a zinc ingot in a Basin under a Mechanical Mixer, with a lit Blaze Burner under the basin for heat. Each pair makes two brass ingots.

How do I make a Precision Mechanism?

Put a golden sheet through a sequence of three deployers holding a cogwheel, a large cogwheel and an iron nugget, five times over. Most come out whole and a few fall apart into scrap.

Does Create double ore?

Only from ore blocks. A Crushing Wheel turns an ore block into one crushed ore and a 75% chance of a second, and washing adds a by-product. Raw ore gives one crushed ore, the same metal as smelting it.

How do I power a Steam Engine?

Place it on a boiler made of Fluid Tanks, pipe water into the tanks and put heat under them, best of all Blaze Burners. Engineer's Goggles on the tank show the boiler's level and whether water, size or heat is short.

Can I craft a Schematicannon on the server?

No. ATM10 removes its recipe.
