How to install the Homestead modpack

Install Homestead 2.0 with the CurseForge app: open file 9290312, press Install, give the game 6 to 8 GB of memory and start it. It is a Fabric pack for Minecraft: Java Edition 1.20.1 with 381 mods, so Bedrock can't run it. Prism Launcher installs the same file if you'd rather use that.

Step by step

  1. Have Minecraft: Java Edition

Homestead runs on Fabric 0.19.5 for Java Edition 1.20.1. Bedrock, on a console, a phone or Minecraft for Windows, can't load it and can't join a Homestead server. You sign in with your own Microsoft account.

  2. Install the CurseForge app

Homestead's home is its CurseForge page, and the CurseForge app installs it in one go. The app also brings the Java the game needs, Java 17 for 1.20.1, so there is nothing to install by hand.

  3. Install Homestead 2.0

Open the 2.0 file page and press Install, and it opens in the app. Or, in the app, pick Minecraft, then Browse Modpacks, search for Homestead and press Install.

The download is about 115 MB, and the app then fetches the 350 mods it lists. To join a server, take the version that server runs. Ours runs 2.0.

  4. Give it 6 to 8 GB of memory

In the app's settings, under Minecraft and Java Settings, set Allocated Memory to 8 GB, or 6 on a PC with less to spare. The pack's own pages say more than 10 GB can make it slower. Why, and what a server needs, is on the RAM page.

  5. Start it once

Press Play and wait for the main menu. The first start loads 381 mods and takes a while; later starts are quicker. From the menu you can make a singleplayer world, or go on to a server.

  6. Join a server

Go to Multiplayer, press Add Server and type the address. Ours is homestead.privatechunks.net, with no port, and it runs Homestead 2.0.

Our server lets in people on its whitelist. You're added when you finish the four steps on the join page, and it catches up within a minute.

Prism and Modrinth

Prism Launcher installs the same CurseForge file. The authors' install guide on the official Homestead wiki does it from Add Instance, then CurseForge, then a search for Homestead. Prism can also import the zip from the file page through Add Instance and Import.

Homestead is on Modrinth too, with a 2.0 file published on 23 October 2026. That file is a different build: it has none of FTB Quests, FTB Teams or FTB Essentials, which the CurseForge file and its server pack both carry. A server made from the server pack, ours included, needs them on your side as well, so take the CurseForge file to play online.

Updating from 1.3.7

Already on 1.3.7? In the app, change the profile's version to 2.0, but empty Storage Drawers and Iron Chests: Restocked first. Homestead 2.0: what's new and how to update has every step.

Questions

Can I play Homestead on Bedrock?

No. Homestead is a Fabric modpack for Java Edition 1.20.1, and Bedrock can't load Fabric mods. Players on a console or a phone can't join a Homestead server either.

How many mods does Homestead have?

381 in version 2.0. The mod list has every one of them, grouped by what it does.

Where do I download Homestead?

From its CurseForge page. The 2.0 file is 9290312, and its Install button opens it in the CurseForge app.

Which Java does Homestead need?

Java 17 or newer. The CurseForge app installs it with the game. In Prism Launcher, pick a Java 17 in the instance's settings.

Does Homestead work in multiplayer?

Yes: on a LAN world, on a server of your own made from the server pack, or on ours. Setting up a Homestead server covers the server files, and playing Homestead with friends compares the ways to play together.

Homestead crashes on startup. What do I check?

The authors' list: at least 6 GB of memory, Java 17, and up to date graphics drivers. On a Mac, the wiki says a crash before the game even starts is fixed by removing the spark mod.

Can I join a server with the Modrinth version?

Not one made from the CurseForge server pack, ours included. The Modrinth file leaves out FTB Quests, FTB Teams and FTB Essentials, which that server expects you to have.

Who makes Homestead

Homestead is made by Tokimi and Meleon of CozyStudios. Its home is the CurseForge page, the official Homestead wiki has the authors' own guides, and their Discord is where to ask them about the pack.
