Silent Gear

Modular and upgradeable tools, weapons, and armor.

Adds328

Silent Gear builds tools, weapons and armor from parts, and the materials in each part set its durability, speed, mining level and traits. You start with a Stone Anvil, a crude knife and template boards, then craft a head and put it together with a rod. In ATM10 every part made of a metal or a gem is poured in a Productive Metalworks foundry, and the strongest materials are the pack's own: Allthemodium, Vibranium, Unobtainium and Uru.

Getting started: anvil, templates and your first tool

Silent Gear parts and tools are crafted in an ordinary crafting table, and JEI lists the recipes under Gear Crafting. In ATM10 metal and gem parts are cast in a foundry, as the casting section explains. The Gear Smithing Table you may see in JEI has no recipe in ATM10.

  • Craft a Stone Anvil from three cobblestone and a block of dirt, and place it.
  • Craft Crude Tool Parts from cobblestone, dirt and a stick, which makes four, then a Crude Knife from cobblestone above one crude tool part.
  • Right-click the anvil with a stack of logs, then right-click it with the knife. Each log becomes six Template Boards.
  • Craft a template from template boards. Each part has its own shape, which JEI shows: the pickaxe template is three boards over two sticks.
  • Craft the template with three materials, such as cobblestone or flint, into a pickaxe head. Then craft the head with a rod into a Pickaxe.

Blueprint Paper does the same job as template boards: four paper and a blue dye make four sheets, in the same shapes. A blueprint can be used again and again, while a template is used up. The tooltip says how many materials it needs, and pressing U on it in JEI shows what it makes. A Blueprint Book stores your blueprints and works as the one you select. ATM10 gives new players no starter blueprints.

ATM10 keeps Silent Gear's conversion recipes. A vanilla wooden, stone, iron, golden, diamond or netherite tool, or a leather, iron, golden, diamond or netherite armor piece, crafted on its own becomes its Silent Gear version. An iron pickaxe turns into one with an iron head and a wooden rod; a netherite pickaxe gives a diamond head with a netherite coating. Here this is the quickest way to an iron or diamond Silent Gear tool, because those heads otherwise come out of the foundry.

Parts: how a tool is put together

A tool is a main part and a rod. The main part comes from its blueprint or template and a set number of materials. Rods come from the rod blueprint (two blueprint paper and two sticks) with two materials, which makes four. Several items count as a rod on their own: sticks, Stone Rods (two cobblestone make four), Iron Rods (two iron ingots make four), blaze rods, breeze rods, end rods, bones and bamboo. The iron rods of other mods in ATM10 count as iron rods too.

One material
Shovel head, knife blade, dagger blade, spear tip, arrow heads.
Two materials
Sword blade, hoe head, shear blades, prospector hammer head, shield plate, ring shank.
Three materials
Pickaxe Head, axe head, katana, machete and sickle blades, trident prongs, bow and crossbow limbs.
Four materials
Mattock head, boot plates.
Five materials
Excavator head, paxel head, saw blade, helmet plates.
Six to eight
Hammer Head and elytra wings take six, legging plates seven, chestplate plates eight.

Armor is the plates on their own, with a lining as an option, and an elytra is its wings and a binding. Bows, crossbows, slingshots and fishing rods also need a cord, and arrows a fletching. Everything else is an upgrade you add later by crafting the finished item together with the part. In ATM10 a part you swap out this way comes back to you.

Tip Upgrade
One material with the tip blueprint (two blueprint paper, a paper and a stone). Most metal and gem tips carry a mining level that can lift the tool's, and add durability and traits.
Coating
Netherite, gold, blaze gold or prismarine. Netherite gives netherite mining level and makes the item fireproof. Apply it in a smithing table with a Coating Smithing Template, or make the part with the coating blueprint and a glass bottle.
Binding
String, flax string, fluffy string, sinew fiber, fine silk or vine. Small bonuses on tools; an elytra needs one.
Grip
Leather, wool, phantom membrane or fine silk cloth. Small bonuses to speed and to repairs.
Cord
Three of the binding materials with the cord blueprint. Bows, crossbows, slingshots and fishing rods need one.
Fletching
Feather, paper or leaves, for arrows.
Lining
Leather, wool, phantom membrane, fine silk cloth or a slime block, for armor.
Jewelry Setting
Jeweler Tools, a bort and a gem make the setting for a ring, bracelet or necklace.

Casting metal and gem parts in ATM10

ATM10 runs Silent Gear Metalworks, which sends every part made of a meltable material to a Productive Metalworks foundry. In the crafting grid a blueprint or template now only takes materials that are not cast: wood, stone, flint, bone, netherrack, end stone, terracotta and the pack's Silent plates. Iron, gold, copper, crimson steel and Silent Gear's other metals, diamond, emerald, quartz, obsidian and the rest of the metals and gems are cast, and so are tips and rods made of them. A blueprint's tooltip says so in game.

  • Build a foundry. Smelt Fire Clay into fire bricks, lay Liquid Heating Coils as the bottom layer, and add a Foundry Controller, a tank, a drain, a Foundry Tap and a Casting Table. The Big Book of Metallurgy shows the layout.
  • Make the part once from a simple material, for example a flint pickaxe head from the pickaxe template.
  • Put that part on the Casting Table and pour 360 mB of molten steel over it. The part is used up and you get a Pickaxe Cast.
  • Put the cast on the table and pour the molten material you want. The head comes out and the cast stays for the next one.
  • Craft the head with a rod as usual.

There is a cast for every main part, plus a Tool Rod Cast and a Tip Cast. The tool rod cast is a different item from the foundry's own rod cast.

Compound materials skip the foundry. A Metal Alloy from the Alloy Forge, a Crude Alloy, a Super Alloy or a Hybrid Gem goes into a blueprint in the crafting grid the way stone does, even when the metals in it would need casting.

Materials, mining levels and traits: the best materials

Each material gives a part durability, harvest speed, attack damage, enchantability, a mining level and traits. The tooltip of any material item shows them, and the Material Book, a book and a blueprint paper, lists every material loaded in the pack.

These are the strongest head materials in ATM10, read from the material files the server loads. The figures are the material's own; each part and tool type adds its modifiers on top.

Uru Metal
15,000 durability, speed 29, attack 35, Unobtainium mining level. Indestructible: it never loses durability. ATM10's own, see below.
Unobtainium
9,500 durability, speed 18, attack 35, Unobtainium mining level.
Vibranium
7,500 durability, speed 9, attack 27, Vibranium mining level.
Allthemodium
5,500 durability, speed 8, attack 22, Allthemodium mining level.
Tyrian Steel
3,652 durability, speed 18, attack 8, netherite mining level. Sturdy, and Void Ward once it makes up half the part.
Refined Obsidian
Mekanism's alloy. 2,500 durability, speed 20, attack 10, diamond mining level.
Crimson Steel
2,400 durability, speed 15, attack 6, netherite mining level. Malleable, Hard, and Flame Ward on armor.
Azure Electrum
1,259 durability, speed 29, attack 7, netherite mining level. The fastest of Silent Gear's own metals. Accelerate and Light.
Diamond
1,561 durability, speed 8, attack 3, diamond mining level.

Crimson iron and azure silver heads mine like diamond, blaze gold like iron, and crimson steel, azure electrum and tyrian steel like netherite. A tip or a coating can raise a tool's mining level above its head's.

  • Malleable, Flexible and Sturdy: the item sometimes takes less damage. Brittle: sometimes more.
  • Hard and Eroded: more harvest speed as the tool wears down. Soft: less.
  • Lustrous: much faster mining in light.
  • Magmatic: smelts what you mine. A crimson steel tip gives it.
  • Imperial and Gold Digger: sometimes extra gems or nuggets when mining.
  • Renew and Stellar: the item slowly repairs itself.
  • Moonwalker: lower gravity. Azure silver gives it once it makes up half a part.

Some traits only apply once a material makes up a large enough share of the part.

Crimson iron, azure silver and the alloys

Crimson Iron Ore
In the Nether, in netherrack and in blackstone (as Blackstone Crimson Iron Ore), at any height above Y 10. Needs an iron pickaxe and drops Raw Crimson Iron, which smelts into Crimson Iron Ingots.
Azure Silver Ore
In the End, in end stone between Y 16 and 92. Needs a netherite-level pickaxe: vanilla netherite, a crimson steel head or tip, or a netherite coating. Drops Raw Azure Silver.
Bort Ore
In the Overworld between Y -60 and 10, in stone and deepslate. Needs an iron pickaxe and drops Bort. In ATM10 an Enrichment Chamber or a SAG Mill gives three bort per ore.

Chests in Nether fortresses, bastions and ruined portals can also hold crimson iron ingots, blaze gold and crimson steel.

Blaze Gold
A gold ingot and four blaze powder in the crafting grid, or a gold ingot and two blaze powder in the Alloy Forge.
Crimson Steel
Four crimson iron ingots, two blaze rods and a magma cream make one in the grid. The Alloy Forge makes three from a block of crimson iron, two blaze rods and a magma cream.
Azure Electrum
Four azure silver ingots, two gold ingots and an ender pearl make one in the grid. The Alloy Forge makes three from a block of azure silver, two gold ingots and an ender pearl.
Tyrian Steel
Alloy Forge only: a crimson steel ingot, an azure electrum ingot, a Crushed Shulker Shell and a netherite scrap make four.

The Alloy Forge is four crimson steel ingots, three blackstone and a block of iron. To crush a shulker shell, put it on the Stone Anvil and hit it with a hammer, which costs the hammer ten durability. A Crude Hammer (two cobblestone and a crude tool part) will do, and the same anvil and hammer turn any of these ingots into dust.

Allthemodium, Vibranium, Unobtainium and Uru in ATM10

ATM10 adds its three metals as Silent Gear materials. The material item is a Silent plate, made in a Smithing Table:

Silent Allthemodium Plate
An Allthemodium Plate, the Allthemodium Smithing Template and a Netherite Ingot.
Silent Unobtainium Plate
An Unobtainium Plate, the Unobtainium Smithing Template and a Vibranium Ingot.

Silent plates are not cast, so they go into a blueprint or template in the crafting grid: three for a pickaxe head, eight for chestplate plates. Two plates with the rod blueprint make four rods, and one plate with the tip blueprint makes a tip that lifts any tool to that metal's mining level.

On armor they carry traits written for ATM10: water breathing from the helmet and fire resistance from the chestplate, each without a full set. Vibranium and Unobtainium leggings also clear Wither and Nausea, and Unobtainium leggings clear Levitation as well. A rod made of any of the three gets the Hard trait.

Uru Metal is the top material. Alloy it in the foundry: 180 mB of molten Heavy Core, 180 mB of Meat and 90 mB each of molten Tyrian Steel, Allthemodium, Vibranium and Unobtainium make 90 mB of Molten Uru Metal. Then build the part in Unobtainium, put it on the Casting Table and pour Uru over it, 90 mB for each plate in the part: 270 mB turns an Unobtainium pickaxe head into an Uru one. Silent Gear Metalworks on its own pours Uru over Tyrian Steel parts; ATM10 changed that to Unobtainium, raised Uru's attack to 35 and gave it Unobtainium mining level. Uru parts cannot be salvaged.

Repairs, upgrades and the Salvager

A Silent Gear item that runs out of durability does not vanish in ATM10. It breaks but stays repairable, and the chat tells you so. Only the Red Card upgrade makes an item break for good like a vanilla tool. Repair kits, with ATM10's capacity and efficiency:

Very Crude Repair Kit
8 materials, 30%. Five template boards, a stick and a stone.
Crude Repair Kit
16 materials, 35%. Five template boards, a stick and an iron ingot.
Sturdy Repair Kit
32 materials, 40%. Five iron ingots, an iron rod and a diamond.
Crimson Repair Kit
48 materials, 45%. Five crimson steel ingots, a blaze rod and a blaze gold ingot.
Azure Repair Kit
64 materials, 50%. Five azure electrum ingots, an end rod and an emerald.
  • Craft the kit with repair materials to fill it. The material has to be of the item's tier or higher.
  • Craft the filled kit with the damaged item. Materials you add to the grid at this step are used up whole.
  • To empty a kit, craft it with a stick. What was inside is lost.

In ATM10 loose materials repair nothing without a kit. An anvil also repairs, at 50% efficiency and for experience.

Upgrades go on in a Smithing Table with a stick in the template slot. They start from an Upgrade Base, two paper, planks and a stone for four, or an Advanced Upgrade Base: an upgrade base with three Diamond Shards, two blue dye and three gold nuggets.

Magnetic Upgrade
Pulls nearby items to you, except while you crouch. Two iron ingots, three crimson steel ingots, a breeze rod and an advanced base.
Spoon Upgrade
A pickaxe digs soil like a shovel. An advanced base and a diamond shovel.
Wide Plate Upgrade
One more block of radius for a hammer or excavator. An advanced base, a block of crimson iron and a crimson steel ingot.
Road Maker Upgrade
An excavator turns dirt into paths in three by three patches. An advanced base, an iron shovel and orange dye.
Red Card
The item breaks for good when it runs out. An upgrade base and red dye make four.

The Salvager takes gear apart: a piston, four crimson iron ingots, a block of iron and obsidian. A Silent Gear item comes back as its parts, and you salvage the parts again for their materials. How much you lose depends on how worn the item is, from nothing up to half in ATM10. It also breaks down vanilla tools and armor (a diamond pickaxe gives three diamonds and two sticks), and ATM10 adds chainmail armor, PneumaticCraft's compressed iron armor, the Aether's gloves and the tools and armor of Mekanism Tools.

Material Grader, Starlight Charger and alloy machines

The Material Grader raises a material item's grade, which multiplies most of its stats. Grades run E, D, C, B, A, S, SS, SSS and MAX. It needs no fuel and uses one catalyst per try. Build it from two quartz, three iron ingots, an advanced upgrade base and three blaze gold ingots.

Glowing Dust
Tier 1 catalyst, results centered on C in ATM10. A stick, two glowstone dust and a quartz make four.
Blazing Dust
Tier 2, centered on B. Blaze gold dust and two glowstone dust make four.
Glittery Dust
Tier 3, centered on A. Four popped chorus fruit, two emerald shards, two glowstone dust and a Nether Banana make eight.

Grades fall on a bell curve around that center. Put a graded item back in to try for better: the grader keeps using catalysts until it rolls a higher grade. ATM10 leaves part grading off, so the grader works on material items.

The Starlight Charger gives materials the Star Charged bonus, a large stat boost. It gathers charge only at night with open sky above it, up to 1,000,000. Craft it from two quartz blocks, two glass, four polished blackstone and a block of blaze gold.

Starmetal dust is azure electrum dust, two azure silver dust, blaze gold dust and a Nether Star Fragment, for three; a nether star splits into nine fragments. Like grading, charging works on material items in ATM10.

Alloy Forge
Mixes metals and dusts into a Metal Alloy whose stats depend on what went in, and makes the four alloys above at a better rate.
Recrystallizer
Mixes gems and dusts into a Hybrid Gem; a diamond and an emerald make Dimerald. Four azure electrum ingots, an emerald, a diamond, two purpur blocks and a block of gold.
Refabricator
Mixes cloth, fibers and slime into a Mixed Fabric. Two iron ingots, two diamonds, a bort, two planks and a block of iron.
Crude Mixer
Mixes any materials, and the Crude Alloy keeps 80% of some stats in ATM10. Five stone, a flax string and planks.
Super Mixer
Mixes any materials with no penalty. Five blocks of tyrian steel, a beacon and a custom gem such as Dimerald.
Metal Press
Presses a metal into two Sheet Metal, the material for elytra wings. Four obsidian, two tyrian steel ingots and two iron rods.

All of these compounds go straight into blueprints in the crafting grid, so in ATM10 they are also a way to use metals without the foundry.

Questions

How do I make Silent Gear tools in ATM10?

Craft a Stone Anvil and a crude knife, cut logs into template boards on the anvil and make a template. Craft the template with materials into a head, then the head with a rod. Stone, flint and other non-metal heads are crafted; metal and gem heads are cast in a Productive Metalworks foundry.

Why won't my blueprint take iron or diamond in ATM10?

ATM10's Silent Gear Metalworks makes every metal and gem part a cast part. Make the part once from flint or stone, pour 360 mB of molten steel over it on a Casting Table to get its cast, then cast the part from the molten metal. Crafting a vanilla iron or diamond tool on its own into its Silent Gear version also works.

What is the best Silent Gear material in ATM10?

Uru Metal: 15,000 durability, attack 35, Unobtainium mining level and the Indestructible trait. Below it come Unobtainium, Vibranium and Allthemodium from the pack's Silent plates, then Tyrian Steel, the best of Silent Gear's own. Azure Electrum mines fastest of Silent Gear's metals.

Where do I find crimson iron and azure silver?

Crimson iron ore is in Nether netherrack and blackstone and needs an iron pickaxe. Azure silver ore is in end stone between Y 16 and 92 and needs a netherite-level pickaxe.

How do I repair Silent Gear tools?

Fill a repair kit with materials of the tool's tier or higher and craft it with the tool. In ATM10 loose materials do nothing without a kit. An anvil repairs at 50% efficiency for experience. A broken tool stays repairable unless it has a Red Card.

How do I make tyrian steel?

Only in the Alloy Forge: a crimson steel ingot, an azure electrum ingot, a crushed shulker shell and a netherite scrap make four. Crush the shell with a hammer on the Stone Anvil.

How do I set up the Starlight Charger?

Put it in the middle of a seven by seven area with a pillar three blocks high on each corner, capped with a block of crimson steel, azure electrum or tyrian steel. It charges at night under open sky, with blaze gold, azure silver or starmetal dust as the catalyst.

How do I get Allthemodium Silent Gear tools?

Make Silent Allthemodium Plates in a smithing table from an Allthemodium Plate, the Allthemodium smithing template and a netherite ingot. The plates go into a blueprint in the crafting grid; three make a pickaxe head.
