Ex Deorum

Bringing back the original Ex Nihilo.
Ex Deorum is how To The Sky's island grows: a barrel composts leaves into dirt, a hammer crushes cobblestone into gravel and sand, and a sieve pulls ore chunks, gems and seeds out of them. Four chunks craft one ore block, which is how iron, tin and uranium reach your island. Start by shift-right-clicking dirt with an empty hand for pebbles, and break leaves with a Crook.

Getting started on the island
On your first login the server gives you a torch and a full Wooden Watering Can. Until you have stone, your first tools come from pebbles.
- Shift-right-click a dirt or grass block with an empty hand. On To The Sky it pops out a pebble and the dirt stays: half the time a Stone Pebble, otherwise andesite, basalt, blackstone, diorite, granite or deepslate. Four stone pebbles craft a Cobblestone.
- Craft a Crook from four sticks and break leaves with it. Each leaf block rolls its drops twice, and one in a hundred drops a Silkworm, your way to string.
- Craft an Oak Barrel from six planks and a slab. Fill it with leaves and saplings: eight leaf blocks make one dirt, about 12 seconds after the barrel is full.
- Craft a Wooden Hammer from two planks and two sticks. Cobblestone you break with it drops gravel, gravel drops sand and sand drops Dust.
- Craft an Oak Sieve and a String Mesh from nine string. Sift dirt for flint, seeds and pebbles, then gravel for ore chunks.
- Make an Oak Crucible for water and a Porcelain Crucible for lava.
Crooks, silkworms and string
A Crook is four sticks and lasts 128 uses. The Bone Crook is four bones, breaks leaves twice as fast and lasts 312. Leaves broken with either roll their usual drops a second time, so you get about twice the saplings, and each leaf block has a 1% chance to drop a Silkworm. Right-click a mob with a crook to pull it toward you.
String for your first mesh comes from silkworms:
- Use a silkworm on any leaf block. It turns into Infested Leaves and is fully infested after about ten seconds.
- Past 60% a block starts spreading to the leaves around it, until the whole tree is infested.
- Break fully infested leaves with a crook: a 40% chance of a string, a further 10% chance of a second one, and a small chance of another silkworm.
- Infested leaves drop nothing without a crook and never drop saplings, so keep one tree clean for saplings.
Nine string make a String Mesh. A silkworm smelts into a Cooked Silkworm, a small snack.
Barrels: compost, clay and witch water
A barrel holds 1,000 mB of one fluid or a load of compost. Wooden barrels are six planks and a slab of the same wood; the Stone Barrel is six stone and a stone slab. A barrel under open sky fills with rain water.
To compost, right-click the barrel with plant matter, food or Wood Chippings. A leaf block or a sapling adds 125, a melon or a stew 200, a pumpkin or a cake 500, and a golden apple fills it at once. At 1,000 the compost turns into a dirt block about 12 seconds later.
Lava burns a wooden barrel: about 12 seconds after you put it in, the barrel becomes lava or catches fire. Keep lava in a stone barrel, or a crimson or warped one.
Mixing: with 1,000 mB of fluid in the barrel, right-click it with the item. The fluid is used up and the result appears in the barrel.
- Snowball and water
- Ice.
- Milk bucket and water
- A slime block. A porcelain milk bucket works too.
- Glowstone dust and lava
- End Stone.
- Slimeball and lava
- Magma cream.
- Sand and witch water
- Soul Sand.
- Soul sand and lava
- Soul soil.
- Obsidian and witch water
- Crying Obsidian. To The Sky adds this one.
Two fluids: with 1,000 mB in the barrel, right-click it with a bucket of the second fluid, or let the second fluid sit on top of the barrel.
- Lava, then water
- Obsidian. The water stays.
- Water, then lava
- Stone. The lava stays.
- Lava, then witch water
- Blackstone. The witch water is used up.
- Witch water, then lava
- Netherrack. The lava is used up.
- Water, then milk
- A slime block.
To The Sky does the same with All The Compressed blocks at every level from 1x to 9x: compressed dust and water make compressed clay, compressed sand and witch water make compressed soul sand, and compressed soul sand and lava make compressed soul soil.
Witch Water is made in a barrel. Fill it with 1,000 mB of water and stand it on Mycelium. Every mycelium block in the three by three square under the barrel speeds it up: about 85 seconds with one, under ten seconds with nine. Red and brown mushrooms sprout on the mycelium while it works. Mycelium comes from Mycelium Spores, sifted out of dirt.
Lava flowing into witch water turns into netherrack, so a witch water and lava generator gives netherrack the way water and lava give cobblestone. Mobs that step into witch water change: a villager into a zombie villager and a cleric into a witch, a skeleton into a wither skeleton, a creeper into a charged creeper, a spider into a cave spider, a pig or piglin into a zombified piglin, a squid into a ghast, a mooshroom into a brown one, an axolotl into a blue one, a rabbit into a killer rabbit, a pufferfish into a guardian, and a horse into a skeleton or zombie horse.
Crucibles: water and lava
A crucible melts what you put in it into fluid and holds up to 4,000 mB. Take the fluid out with a bucket.
- Oak Crucible and the other wooden ones
- Six logs and a slab. Melts leaves, saplings, fruit and other plants into water, with no heat needed; a leaf block gives 250 mB. It also fills with rain.
- Porcelain Crucible
- Melts cobblestone, stone or gravel into 250 mB of lava each and netherrack into 500 mB. It needs heat under it. The crimson and warped crucibles work the same way.
For the porcelain one, craft a clay ball and bone meal into a Porcelain Clay Ball, seven balls into an Unfired Porcelain Crucible, and smelt it. The clay comes from dust and water in a barrel.
A lava crucible melts faster the hotter the block under it:
- Torch or lantern
- 1x
- Lit campfire, soul campfire, soul torch or soul lantern
- 2x
- Lava
- 3x
- Fire or soul fire
- 5x
- Uranium Block
- 20x, added by To The Sky.
- Superheating Element
- 60x, added by To The Sky.
- Soul Lava
- 120x, added by To The Sky.
A glass bottle carries 250 mB of water from a wooden crucible to a barrel and back, which helps before you have a bucket.
Hammers: gravel, sand, dust and crushed blocks
A block you break with a hammer drops its crushed form. A hammer is two of its material and two sticks: planks, cobblestone, iron, gold or diamonds. The Netherite Hammer is a diamond hammer upgraded at a smithing table. Fortune on a hammer gives extra drops.
- Cobblestone, andesite, diorite or granite
- Gravel
- Gravel
- Sand
- Sand or red sand
- Dust
- Netherrack
- Crushed Netherrack, which a hammer turns into red sand
- Deepslate or cobbled deepslate
- Crushed Deepslate, the block uranium is sifted from
- Blackstone
- Crushed Blackstone
- End stone
- Crushed End Stone
- Stone
- 1 to 6 Stone Pebbles
- Any log
- 3 to 8 Wood Chippings
A hammer also turns sandstone back into sand, dripstone blocks into pointed dripstone, prismarine into shards and coral blocks into coral.
On To The Sky, Create's Crushing Wheels and Mekanism's Crusher make the crushed blocks too: deepslate, netherrack, blackstone and end stone into their crushed forms, and sand into dust.
Nine hammers of one kind craft a compressed hammer, such as the Compressed Iron Hammer. On To The Sky it works on All The Compressed blocks and keeps the level, from 1x to 9x: compressed cobblestone, andesite, diorite or granite into compressed gravel, gravel into sand, sand or red sand into dust, netherrack into crushed netherrack and that into red sand, deepslate or cobbled deepslate into crushed deepslate, blackstone into crushed blackstone, and end stone into crushed end stone.
Sieves and meshes
A sieve is four planks, a slab and two sticks; every wood makes the same sieve. Right-click it with a mesh to fit the mesh, then with a block to load it, and hold right-click to sift. A block takes ten uses. You can sift dirt, gravel, sand, red sand, dust, soul sand, moss blocks and the four crushed blocks. Shift-right-click an empty sieve with an empty hand to take the mesh back.
Sieves in a five by five square that hold the same kind of mesh work together: loading one fills the others from your hand, and sifting one sifts them all.
The mesh decides what comes out. On To The Sky each mesh is made from the one before it, with four of the new material around it in a crafting grid:
- String Mesh
- Nine string.
- Flint Mesh
- A string mesh and four flint.
- Iron Mesh
- A flint mesh and four iron ingots.
- Golden Mesh
- An iron mesh and four gold ingots.
- Diamond Mesh
- A golden mesh and four diamonds.
- Netherite Mesh
- A diamond mesh, a netherite ingot and a netherite upgrade template at a smithing table.
A later mesh raises most chances and adds drops. A few drops come from one mesh only: the flint mesh finds andesite, diorite and granite pebbles in dirt, and the netherite mesh finds echo shards.
Meshes take Fortune and Efficiency. Each level of Fortune gives every drop a 30% chance to roll again, and each level of Efficiency sifts 17% faster. Meshes stack to 16.
What to sift for: ore chunks, uranium and diamonds
Ores come out as chunks. Four chunks in a two by two grid craft one ore block: iron, copper and gold give Minecraft's ores, the others give All The Ores' ores. Smelt or process the ore like any other. Every drop, block by block and mesh by mesh, is in To The Sky's sieve tables.
- Gravel
- Iron, copper, gold, tin, lead, silver, nickel, aluminum, zinc and osmium chunks, plus coal, lapis, amethyst and flint.
- Crushed Deepslate
- Iron, copper, gold, tin, lead, silver, nickel, osmium and platinum chunks, lapis and amethyst, and the only Uranium Ore Chunks: 4% per sift with a string mesh, 6% flint, 7% golden, 8% iron, 10% diamond, 12% netherite.
- Dirt
- Stone pebbles, flint, seeds, carrots, potatoes, sugar cane, Grass Seeds and Mycelium Spores. From the iron mesh up it adds deepslate pebbles.
- Sand
- Iron nuggets, flint, certus quartz, prismarine, cactus and kelp. The flint mesh can give a random pottery sherd, the golden mesh a random armor trim.
- Red Sand
- Raw gold and redstone.
- Dust
- Redstone, glowstone, gunpowder, bone meal, blaze powder, certus quartz dust, sky dust and grains of infinity.
- Soul Sand
- Nether quartz, ghast tears, nether wart, glowstone and gunpowder.
- Moss Block
- Saplings of the vanilla trees and of Ars Nouveau's archwoods, azalea, dripleaf and glow berries.
- Crushed Netherrack
- Blaze powder, nether quartz, gunpowder, magma cream, blackstone pebbles and nylium spores.
- Crushed Blackstone
- Ancient Debris: 2% per sift with a string mesh, up to 10% with netherite. Also gunpowder, magma cream and blackstone pebbles.
- Crushed End Stone
- Ender pearls, eyes of ender and chorus fruit. The netherite mesh alone adds Echo Shards at 3% and sculk shriekers at 1%.
To The Sky adds drops of its own:
- Gravel
- Diamonds: 1% per sift with an iron mesh, 4% golden, 6% diamond, and 6% with netherite for up to two. Emeralds the same way at 1%, 3%, 4% and 5%. Create's Crimsite, Veridium, Asurine and Ochrum and XyCraft's Kivi at 4% to 8%, from the iron mesh up.
- Sand
- Fluorite at 12% to 15%, Black Quartz at 10% to 11%, Powah's Uraninite with a diamond mesh (7%) or netherite mesh (8%, up to two), Allthemodium Nuggets with a diamond (1%) or netherite mesh (6%), and cactus and kelp with a diamond mesh.
- Dust
- Salt and Sulfur at 12% to 15%, Arcane Crystal at 5% to 8%, and XyCraft's five Xychorium gems at 4% to 8%.
- Dirt
- Actually Additions' canola, coffee and flax seeds, Silent Gear's flax seeds, rose bushes and sunflowers from the flint mesh up, and torchflower seeds from the iron mesh up.
- Soul Sand
- Mystical Agriculture's Prosperity Shards at 18% to 20% and Soulium Dust with a diamond (5%) or netherite mesh (10%).
- Moss Block
- Menril, Edelwood and Flashing Archwood saplings at 1% to 4%, from the iron mesh up.
- Crushed Blackstone
- Allthemodium Nuggets: 4% with a diamond mesh, 15% with netherite.
- Crushed End Stone
- Draconium Dust at 6% with a diamond mesh and 9% with netherite (up to two), and Sculk at 7.5% with netherite.
It also takes some away: no sieve drops gold nuggets or iridium chunks, gravel gives no pebbles, and crushed deepslate gives no diamonds or emeralds.
Automating sieves and hammers
To The Sky removes Ex Deorum's Mechanical Sieve and Mechanical Hammer and every compressed sieve. Automation comes from the Ex Machinis add-on, whose machines run on FE from another mod's generators.
- Flux Sieve
- A sieve, five iron bars, two iron blocks and a hopper. Give it a mesh and blocks; the drops go into the inventory below it. Fortune on the mesh still counts.
- Flux Hammer
- A diamond hammer, five glass panes, two iron blocks and a hopper. It takes blocks from the inventory above and puts the result into the one in front.
- Flux Compactor
- Four iron blocks, three pistons, a comparator and a hopper. It packs four ore chunks into an ore, four stone pebbles into stone and four deepslate pebbles into deepslate.
- Gold Upgrade and Diamond Upgrade
- Let a machine handle more items at once. On our server a machine with a gold upgrade works every 8 seconds, and with a diamond upgrade every 4 seconds. To The Sky removes the Netherite Upgrade.
Shift-right-click a Flux machine with a hammer to choose its output side. A redstone signal switches it off.
Watering cans, porcelain, End Cake and Sculk Core
Hold right-click with a watering can on saplings, crops, grass, mycelium, mushrooms, cactus, sugar cane, berries or cocoa to make them grow faster. Fill it from water, a barrel or a wooden crucible.
- Wooden
- Four planks and a bowl. Holds 300 mB.
- Stone
- Holds 1,000 mB.
- Iron
- Holds 2,000 mB.
- Golden
- Holds 4,000 mB and never runs dry once full.
- Diamond
- Never runs dry and waters a three by three area.
- Netherite
- The diamond one upgraded at a smithing table. Machines can use it too.
A Porcelain Bucket is three porcelain clay balls, smelted. It carries water, lava and witch water and milks cows. A Porcelain Lava Bucket breaks when you pour it out. On To The Sky the porcelain water and lava buckets count as water and lava buckets in recipes that take any.
The End Cake is three eyes of ender, two sugar, an egg and three crushed end stone. Right-click it to eat a slice and land in the End. It is placed with one slice; give it an eye of ender for each extra slice, up to seven.
A Sculk Core is four echo shards around an ender pearl. Use it on a Sculk Shrieker you placed and the shrieker can summon a Warden, which a placed shrieker never does on its own. The shards and the shrieker both come out of crushed end stone with a netherite mesh.
Things you sift: Grass Seeds turn dirt into grass, and four make a moss block. Mycelium Spores turn dirt into mycelium and a cow into a mooshroom. Crimson and warped nylium spores turn netherrack into nylium. A Random Armor Trim and a Random Pottery Sherd become a random trim template or sherd when you right-click them; the trim is never the netherite upgrade.
Questions
How do I get uranium in ATM10 To The Sky?
Hammer deepslate or cobbled deepslate into Crushed Deepslate and sift it. Each sift can drop a Uranium Ore Chunk: 4% with a string mesh, 6% flint, 7% golden, 8% iron, 10% diamond, 12% netherite. Four chunks craft one Uranium Ore. Powah's uraninite comes from sand with a diamond or netherite mesh.
How do I get diamonds on To The Sky?
Sift gravel with an iron mesh or better: 1% per sift with iron, 4% golden, 6% diamond, and 6% with netherite for up to two. To The Sky takes diamonds out of crushed deepslate.
How do I get deepslate on To The Sky?
Collect deepslate pebbles. Shift-right-click dirt with an empty hand (about one pebble in twelve is deepslate), or sift dirt with an iron mesh or better. Four pebbles craft cobbled deepslate, which smelts into deepslate; a Flux Compactor turns four straight into deepslate.
How do I get string for the first mesh?
Break leaves with a crook until a silkworm drops (1% per leaf block). Use it on leaves to infest the tree, then break the fully infested leaves with the crook: 40% chance of a string each, plus 10% for a second.
How do I get lava on the island?
Make a Porcelain Crucible from porcelain clay (clay and bone meal), put a torch or better under it and fill it with cobblestone, stone or gravel for 250 mB each, or netherrack for 500 mB. Keep lava in a stone, crimson or warped barrel.
How do I make witch water?
Fill a barrel with 1,000 mB of water and place it on mycelium. With one mycelium block under it the water turns in about 85 seconds; nine blocks in the square below bring it under ten. Mycelium spores come from sifting dirt.
Why can't I craft a compressed sieve or a Mechanical Sieve?
To The Sky removes both, and the Mechanical Hammer. Automate with Ex Machinis instead: the Flux Sieve, Flux Hammer and Flux Compactor, powered with FE.
Where does ancient debris come from on To The Sky?
Hammer blackstone into Crushed Blackstone and sift it: 2% per sift with a string mesh, rising to 10% with a netherite mesh. Blackstone comes from lava and witch water in a barrel, or from blackstone pebbles.
