[Let's Do] Vinery

In Vino Veritas - it's time for wine!
Vinery is Homestead's wine mod. To make wine, put six grapes in a Grapevine Pot, jump on it three times and fill two Wine Bottles with juice. Pour the juice into a Fermentation Barrel, add the recipe's ingredient (sugar for Red Wine) and an empty wine bottle, and five minutes later the wine is done. Every wine gives an effect, and the longer you keep a bottle the stronger and longer it gets.

What to build first
- Grapevine Pot
- Two wooden slabs over three planks. Where you stomp grapes into juice. See Grapevine Pot.
- Wine Bottle
- Two glass bottles, one over the other, make four. Juice and wine both go in them. See Wine Bottle.
- Fermentation Barrel
- A Barrel on two sticks. Turns juice into wine in five minutes. See Fermentation Barrel.
- Apple Press
- An iron trapdoor, a barrel and four sticks. Mashes apples and presses the mash into Apple Juice. See Apple Press.
- Grapevine Stem and Lattice
- Two logs make four stems; five sticks and a plank make four lattices. Grapes grow on them. See Grapevine Stem and Oak Lattice.
The eight grapes and where they grow
There are four kinds of grape, each red and white, and each kind makes its own juice. Wild bushes grow in these biomes:
- Red and White Grapes
- Forests, rivers, mountains, plains, swamps and meadows. See Red Grape and White Grape.
- Savanna Grapes
- Savannas and wooded badlands. The bush only grows in full daylight. See Red Savanna Grapes.
- Taiga Grapes
- Taigas and mountains. The bush needs podzol, coarse dirt or grass within four blocks. See Red Taiga Grapes.
- Jungle Grapes
- Jungles and wooded badlands, as a vine. They grow on a lattice. See Red Jungle Grapes.
- Right-click a ripe bush to pick it. A half-grown bush gives at most one grape, a full one one or two.
- Craft a grape into its seed, one for one. Eating a grape gives the seed back one time in five.
- Plant seeds on any solid block in light. Bone meal speeds a bush up.
- The Wandering Winemaker sells the seeds of seven grapes, and White Jungle Grapes, for an emerald each.
Grapevine stems and lattices for more grapes
A bush gives one or two grapes a pick. A vine on a Grapevine Stem gives three or four, which is why every vineyard uses stems.
- Place a Grapevine Stem on a solid block. With two or more in your hand it places two, one on the other.
- Right-click the top stem with Red, White, Savanna or Taiga Grape Seeds.
- It grows in light of nine or more. When the grapes hang ripe, right-click for three or four.
- The vine stays and ripens again. Shears cut it back a stage and give a seed.
Red and White Grape vines also grow grapevine leaves on the ground around the stem a few minutes after planting. Jungle Grape Seeds go on a lattice: right-click any wooden lattice with them.
How to make grape juice
- Place a Grapevine Pot and right-click it with grapes, six in all.
- Jump on the pot three times. You hear the grapes squeeze each time.
- Right-click it with an empty Wine Bottle for a bottle of juice. Six grapes fill two bottles.
The juice takes the type of the first grape you put in, so keep one kind per pot. There are eight juices, one per grape, such as Red Grapejuice and White Grapejuice.
Apple Juice comes from the Apple Press. Put apples in its first slot: each becomes Apple Mash in 30 seconds. The mash, with an empty wine bottle, becomes Apple Juice in 40 seconds. The press also turns a honeycomb block into four honeycombs and a honeycomb into a honey bottle.
How the Fermentation Barrel works
- Right-click the barrel to open it. Put juice bottles in the juice slot.
- Each bottle fills a quarter of the barrel, up to four at once, and its empty bottle goes to the bottle slot.
- Put the recipe's ingredients in the three middle slots.
- Leave an empty Wine Bottle in the bottle slot. Most wines take one.
- Five minutes later the wine is in the output slot. The barrel keeps going while juice and ingredients last.
A barrel holds one juice at a time, and each wine uses a share of it, from one percent for Mead to a quarter for Cristel Wine. Sneaking and right-clicking the barrel pours all of its juice away.
Every wine: juice, ingredients and effect
The juice share is out of the barrel's hundred. Wines marked with no bottle need no empty Wine Bottle.
- Red Wine

- Villagers Fright
- White Jungle juice (17) and an arrow. Bad Omen, which starts a raid when you enter a village.
- Chenet Wine
- Red Jungle juice (12), a spider eye and a honey bottle, no bottle. Climb walls.
- Magnetic Wine
- Red Jungle juice (10) and an iron ingot, no bottle. Pulls nearby items to you.
- Stal Wine
- Red Jungle juice (8), cocoa beans and sugar. More maximum health.
- Cider
- Apple juice (20) and sugar. Strength.
- Apple Wine
- Apple juice (15) and one more Apple Juice, no bottle. Resistance.
- Mead
- Apple juice (1), a honey bottle and sugar. Haste.
Red juice is Red Grapejuice and white juice White Grapejuice; the savanna, taiga and jungle wines need their own grapes' juice.
How wine aging works
A wine is stamped with the year it was made, and its tooltip shows its age and the days left to its next improvement. It ages wherever it is: in your inventory, a chest or a rack.
- One wine year
- 24 Minecraft days of 20 minutes, so eight hours while our server runs. Homestead's longer daylight does not change it.
- Duration
- 90 seconds when new, ten seconds more per year, up to twelve and a half minutes.
- Strength
- One effect level more every six years, up to five levels.
- Fixed ones
- Chorus Wine, Creepers Crush and Mellohi Wine keep the same duration. Their level still rises.
The advancement "Vintage Perfection" asks for a bottle of Miss Lilitu's Wine aged 15 years.
Racks, the Wine Box and the Basket
Wines come in small and big bottles, and you can sneak-click to stand a bottle on any block. The racks come in ten woods:
- Small Wine Bottle Storage
- Four small bottles. See Small Oak Wine Bottle Storage.
- Big Wine Bottle Storage
- Nine small bottles. See Big Oak Wine Bottle Storage.
- Wine Rack
- One bottle of any size, behind glass. See Oak Wine Rack.
- Wine Box
- One small bottle in a gift box. See Wine Box.
- Basket
- A picnic basket with nine slots that you carry off with its contents. The Winemaker villager sells it. See Basket.
Apple and dark cherry trees
Apple trees and dark cherry trees grow wild in plains, sunflower plains and meadows. Their leaves ripen fruit you pick with a right-click, one to three at a time, and grow back.
- Cherries go into Cherry Wine, Bolvar Wine, Miss Lilitu's Wine and Mojang Noir.
- Apples feed the Apple Press for cider, Apple Wine and Mead.
- Plant the Apple Tree Sapling or Dark Cherry Sapling for an orchard.
- Dark cherry wood makes a full wood set, chairs, tables, cabinets and a Dark Cherry Barrel that stores like a barrel.
The Winemaker and the Wandering Winemaker
- Winemaker villager
- A villager who claims a Fermentation Barrel becomes a Winemaker. He buys fifteen red or white grapes for an emerald and sells grape seeds, wine bottles, flower boxes, grape bags, the Basket, windows, the Wine Box and Miss Lilitu's Wine.
- Wandering Winemaker
- Half the times a wandering trader would arrive, the Wandering Winemaker comes instead, with two mules. He sells grape seeds for an emerald, apple and dark cherry saplings, juices for four emeralds and Cherry Wine.
The Winemaker outfit
The Straw Hat (red wool between two straw or wheat), Winemaker Apron (eight red wool), Winemaker Leggings and Winemaker Boots are armour. Wear all four and bone meal is no longer used up when you use it.
The Vines and Vintage quest chapter and the banner
Homestead's quest book has a chapter of 32 quests for Vinery:
- "Fruits of the Vine": any grape seed, for five Red and five White Grape Seeds.
- "Fruits in the Branches": an apple and a dark cherry sapling, for five of each.
- "Vineyard Dreams": a Grapevine Stem and a lattice, for ten stems and six Oak Lattices.
- "The Winemaker's Kit": the pot, the barrel, the press and a wine bottle, for 32 Wine Bottles.
- Then one quest per wine, each giving back its ingredients, ending with Jellie Wine for 100 XP.
Holding every wine except Apple Wine earns the advancement "Wine Sommelier": 800 XP and two Completionist Banners. A placed banner gives Regeneration II to players within eight blocks, and a smithing table copies it with a netherite ingot and an upgrade template.
Questions
How do you make wine in Vinery?
Put six grapes in a Grapevine Pot, jump on it three times and fill two Wine Bottles with juice. Put the juice in a Fermentation Barrel with the ingredient (sugar for Red Wine) and an empty Wine Bottle. It takes five minutes.
Why is my Fermentation Barrel not making wine?
It needs enough juice of the right type for the recipe, the exact ingredients in the middle slots, and for most wines an empty Wine Bottle in the bottle slot. A barrel holds one juice at a time.
How do I get grape juice?
Right-click a Grapevine Pot with six grapes of one kind, jump on it three times, then right-click it twice with an empty Wine Bottle. Apple Juice comes from the Apple Press.
How long does wine take to age?
A wine year is 24 Minecraft days, eight hours of server time. Each year adds ten seconds to the effect, and every six years the effect gets a level stronger.
Where do I find grapes?
Red and White Grapes grow wild in forests, plains, rivers and meadows, savanna grapes in savannas, taiga grapes in taigas and jungle grapes in jungles. The Wandering Winemaker sells all their seeds.
What is the best Vinery wine?
Jellie Wine heals and adds absorption hearts like a stronger golden apple. Bolvar Wine (walk on lava), Magnetic Wine and Clark Wine (double jump) are the most useful day to day.
