Farmer's Delight

A cozy farming and cooking expansion for Minecraft!

Adds226

Farmer's Delight adds cooking: four new crops found wild, knives and a cutting board to portion food, a cooking pot that turns six ingredients into a meal, and feasts you place on a table and share. Its big meals give Nourishment, which stops your hunger from dropping for up to five minutes. Start with a Flint Knife, a Cutting Board and a Cooking Pot on a lit campfire.

Wild crops and where they grow

None of the mod's crops can be crafted at first. You find them as wild plants in the Overworld, in villages' farm plots and chests, or from a wandering trader. Breaking a wild crop gives its seed or the crop itself. Shears pick up the whole plant, and bone meal on it spreads a few more around it.

Wild Cabbages
On sand in beach biomes. Drop Cabbage Seeds, and one time in five a whole Cabbage.
Sea Beets
Also on sand in beach biomes. Drop beetroot seeds.
Wild Tomatoes
Hot, dry Overworld biomes such as savannas, deserts and badlands. Drop Tomato Seeds, and one time in five a Tomato.
Wild Onions
Temperate land such as plains and forests. Drop an Onion, which you plant as it is.
Wild Carrots
Temperate land such as plains and forests, on a patch of coarse dirt. Drop a carrot.
Wild Potatoes
Cold land that is not snowy, such as taigas and windswept hills. Drop a potato.
Wild Rice
Wet biomes such as swamps and jungles, standing in shallow water on dirt. Drops Rice.

Brown and red Mushroom Colonies grow wild in mushroom fields. Zombies, husks and zombie villagers killed by a player drop an onion 2% of the time.

Growing cabbage, tomatoes, onions and rice

Cabbage
Plant Cabbage Seeds on farmland. A grown cabbage drops one cabbage and some seeds back.
Onion
Plant the onion itself on farmland. A grown plant drops more onions.
Tomatoes
Plant Tomato Seeds on farmland. Right-click a ripe vine to pick one or two tomatoes; the vine stays and grows again. Put Rope above it and the vine climbs it, bearing on every block. One pick in twenty also gives a Rotten Tomato you can throw.
Rice
Plant a grain of rice in a water source block that sits on dirt, with air above it, so the water is one block deep. It grows Rice Panicles on top. Cut them with a knife for rice and straw.

Straw comes from cutting plants with a knife: always from grown wheat and rice, one time in five from short grass. It makes rope, canvas, organic compost and the straw bale. Nine of a crop pack into a crate or bag, and vanilla carrots, potatoes and beetroots have crates too.

Knives and the cutting board

A knife is the material on top of a stick: flint, iron, gold or diamond. The diamond knife becomes a netherite knife in a smithing table with a netherite upgrade template and a netherite ingot. Knives swing faster than swords and hit softer, and they take Backstabbing, an enchantment of their own that multiplies damage from behind by 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8.

  • Cut grown wheat, rice and grass for straw.
  • Kill a pig for a 50% chance of a Ham, more with Looting. A hoglin always drops one.
  • Kill a cow, horse, llama or other hide animal for one extra leather, and a chicken for an extra feather.
  • Right-click a pumpkin with a knife to carve it, which also drops four pumpkin seeds.
  • Right-click a cake with a knife to take a slice off it.

The Cutting Board is four planks and two sticks. Place the item on it, then use the right tool on it, and the pieces fly out away from the handle, so a hopper there catches them. Each cut costs the tool one durability. Hold the ingredients in your offhand and the knife in your main hand to cut a whole stack.

Knife
Raw beef into two Minced Beef, pork into two Bacon, chicken, cod and salmon into two pieces and a bone meal, a cabbage into two leaves, dough into Raw Pasta, a pumpkin into four slices, cakes and pies into slices, flowers into two dyes.
Axe
Logs and wood into the stripped log and a piece of Tree Bark. Also salvages wooden furniture.
Pickaxe and shovel
Brick blocks back into bricks, a clay block into four clay balls, gravel with a 10% chance of flint.

Each level of Fortune on the tool raises the chance of the rare outputs by 10% on our server, the mod's default. A dispenser facing a cutting board uses the tool inside it, so the board can be automated.

The cooking pot and its heat sources

The Cooking Pot is two bricks, a wooden shovel, a water bucket and five iron ingots. It has six ingredient slots, a slot for the container and the output. It only cooks when the block under it is hot: a lit campfire or soul campfire, fire, lava, a magma block, a lava cauldron or a lit Stove. Heat also passes through one hopper (or a Create chute) between the pot and the source.

ATM10 adds more heat sources from other mods: Deeper Darker's Gloomy Geyser, Refurbished Furniture's Light and Dark Stove, Supplementaries' Fire Pit and Twilight Forest's Block of Fiery Metal.

  • Most meals take 10 seconds. Cooked rice, tomato sauce and cabbage rolls take 5, the Stuffed Pumpkin 20.
  • A meal that needs a container waits in the pot until you put one in: a bowl for soups and plated meals, a glass bottle for drinks, a pumpkin for the Stuffed Pumpkin.
  • You can also right-click the pot with the container to take a serving, or craft the pot and a container together.
  • Broken, the pot keeps the meals inside it, like a shulker box. The ingredients drop.
  • Hoppers put ingredients in from the top, containers from the side, and take meals out of the bottom.
  • Ingredients that come in a container, like milk bottles or tomato sauce, give it back when the meal is done.

Skillet and stove

The Skillet is four iron ingots and a brick. Stand within a block of a heat source, hold the skillet, put raw food in your other hand and hold right-click: it cooks any campfire recipe in a fifth of the time, so six seconds instead of thirty. Each level of Fire Aspect makes it faster. While you are on fire it works anywhere. Sneak to place it as a block on a heat source; it then cooks a stack and drops the food on the handle's side. It is also a heavy weapon with strong knockback.

The Stove is three iron ingots, four bricks blocks and a campfire. It grills six items at once with campfire recipes and needs no fuel, and a lit stove heats a cooking pot or skillet on top. Put it out with a shovel or water, light it with flint and steel. Standing on a lit stove hurts.

Nourishment and Comfort

Nourishment stops your hunger bar from going down. It only lets hunger drop while you are hurt and healing from saturation, and you can always eat while you have it. The soups, stews and plated meals give it, for 30 seconds (cooked rice) up to 5 minutes (the feasts and the best meals).

Comfort, natural healing whatever your hunger, is no longer given by any food in the version ATM10 runs. Older guides that say soups give Comfort describe an earlier release. In ATM10 vanilla's mushroom stew and beetroot soup give 3 minutes of Nourishment, rabbit stew 5 minutes and more food, and all three stack to 16.

Meals worth cooking

Beef Stew
Raw beef, a carrot and a potato, in a bowl. 12 hunger and 3 minutes of Nourishment.
Vegetable Soup
Carrot, potato, beetroot and a leafy green such as a cabbage leaf. 12 hunger, 3 minutes.
Chicken Soup
Raw chicken, a carrot, a leafy green and any vegetable but melon. 12 hunger, 3 minutes.
Fish Stew

Hamburger
Crafted: bread, a beef patty, a leafy green, a tomato and an onion. 11 hunger, eaten by hand with no effect.

Pasta starts as Wheat Dough: one wheat with a water bucket (the water stays), or three wheat and an egg for three. Cut it on the board for Raw Pasta. Tomato Sauce is two tomatoes in the pot, served in a bowl.

Dog Food (rotten flesh, bone meal, raw meat and rice) heals a tamed wolf fully and gives it Speed, Strength and Resistance for 5 minutes. Horse Feed does the same for a tamed horse with Speed II and Jump Boost.

Feasts: big meals you place and share

A feast is placed as a block, not eaten. Right-click it with a bowl to take a serving, four servings each. When the last serving is gone, right-click the plate again to clear it and get the bowl back. Each serving gives 14 hunger and 5 minutes of Nourishment.

Stuffed Pumpkin
Cooked in the pot with a pumpkin as the container: rice, an onion, a brown mushroom, a potato, berries and any vegetable but melon. Takes 20 seconds. The pumpkin vanishes after the fourth serving.
Roast Chicken
Crafted: cooked chicken, two baked potatoes, two carrots, an onion, an egg, bread and a bowl.
Honey Glazed Ham

Shepherd's Pie
Crafted: three cooked mutton, two baked potatoes, two onions, milk and a bowl.
Gleaming Salad

Rice Roll Medley
Crafted from three kelp roll slices, three salmon rolls, two cod rolls and a bowl. Eight servings, taken by hand with no bowl.

Drinks, pies and sweets

Milk Bottle
A milk bucket and four glass bottles make four. Clears one effect at random, where a bucket clears them all.
Hot Cocoa
Cooking pot: milk, sugar and two cocoa beans, in a glass bottle. Clears one harmful effect.
Apple Cider
Cooking pot: two apples and sugar, in a glass bottle. One minute of Absorption, and you can drink it when full.
Melon Juice
Crafted from four melon slices, sugar and a glass bottle. Heals one heart at once.

Pies start with a Pie Crust (three wheat and milk). Apple pie, chocolate pie and sweet berry cheesecake are placed like cakes, or cut into four slices on the board; a slice gives a short burst of Speed. Glow Berry Custard, honey and sweet berry cookies, the melon popsicle and fruit salad are the other sweets.

Organic compost and rich soil

Organic Compost is crafted: a dirt block, two straw, and either two rotten flesh with four bone meal or four tree bark with two bone meal. Placed, it rots through eight stages into Rich Soil. It goes faster in open sky, next to water, and with activators in the 3x3x3 around it: mushrooms and mushroom colonies, podzol, mycelium, more compost and rich soil.

Plants on Rich Soil get a free bone meal growth 20% of the times they tick, on our server's default. Till it with a hoe for Rich Soil Farmland, which mobs cannot trample and which boosts crops only while it is fully watered. A brown or red mushroom planted on rich soil turns into a Mushroom Colony, which grows extra caps; shears take the colony whole.

Questions

How do I make beef stew in Minecraft?

Beef stew comes from Farmer's Delight. Put raw beef, a carrot and a potato in a heated Cooking Pot, then a bowl in the container slot. It cooks in 10 seconds and gives 12 hunger and 3 minutes of Nourishment.

How do I make the Stuffed Pumpkin in Farmer's Delight?

In a heated Cooking Pot, with a pumpkin in the container slot: rice, an onion, a brown mushroom, a potato, berries and one more vegetable. Place the result and take four servings with bowls.

Why is my cooking pot not cooking?

It needs heat right under it, or through one hopper: a lit campfire, fire, lava, a magma block, a lava cauldron or a lit Stove. Also check the container slot: a finished meal waits there until you give it a bowl or bottle.

Where do I find cabbage, tomatoes, onions and rice?

As wild crops. Cabbages and sea beets grow on beaches, tomatoes in hot dry biomes like savannas, onions and carrots in plains and forests, potatoes in cold biomes, and rice in shallow water in swamps and jungles. Village chests and farms have them too.

How do I get straw?

Break grown wheat or rice with a knife, which always drops straw, or short grass, which drops it one time in five.

How do I get rich soil?

Craft Organic Compost, place it, and wait. It turns into Rich Soil faster in sunlight, next to water and beside mushrooms, podzol or mycelium.

What does the Comfort effect do, and which food gives it?

Comfort healed you whatever your hunger. No food gives it in Farmer's Delight 1.3.4, the version in ATM10; the meals give Nourishment instead, which keeps your hunger from dropping.

What are the Farmer's Delight drinks?
