Mythic Upgrades
Mythic Upgrades adds new mythic crystals & gems to the game!
Mythic Upgrades adds eight gems that go on top of netherite. Four gems and four Necoium Ingots make a gem ingot, and a gem ingot with a Mythic Upgrade Smithing Template turns a netherite tool or armor piece into that gem's version at a smithing table. The stats stay netherite's and each gem adds an ability. Aquamarine, citrine, peridot and topaz are in the overworld's Mythic Caves, ruby and sapphire in the Nether's Mythic Rifts, jade and ametrine on the outer End islands.

From netherite to Mythic gear
- Mine Necoium Ore below Y 16 with an iron pickaxe and smelt the Raw Necoium into Necoium Ingots.
- Find your gem in its biome (the table below) and mine its ore with an iron pickaxe.
- Craft a gem ingot, such as a Ruby Ingot, from four gems and four Necoium Ingots.
- Craft a Mythic Upgrade Smithing Template from a Netherite Upgrade template, seven Necoium Ingots and a Block of Necoium, or find one in an End City.
- At a Smithing Table, put in the template, a netherite piece and the gem ingot.
Each piece takes one template and one gem ingot. A full set of four armor pieces and five tools is nine of each, so 36 gems and 36 Necoium Ingots for the ingots alone.
Necoium, the metal in every recipe
Necoium Ore generates in every overworld biome between Y -64 and 16, and Deepslate Necoium Ore below Y -16. It is common: on our map it is in almost every chunk, mostly as the deepslate ore. Mythic Caves hold more veins and Blocks of Raw Necoium set in the stone, each worth nine Raw Necoium.
- Mine the ore with an iron pickaxe or better. It drops Raw Necoium, more with Fortune.
- Smelt Raw Necoium in a furnace or a blast furnace for a Necoium Ingot. Silk-touched ore smelts straight into an ingot too.
- Four ingots go into every gem ingot, and 16 into each template you craft (seven plus a block of nine).
- Eight Blocks of Necoium around a carrot or a golden carrot make a Necoium Carrot, for Necoium Share between friends.
Where to find each gem
A gem's ore generates only inside its biome, and the biomes are patches laid over the world. Each has schist stone in the gem's colour, veins of crystal and buds growing on the walls, which is how you know you are in one.
- Aquamarine
- Aquamarine Ore in Cold Mythic Caves, overworld, Y -64 to 32, with a deepslate version.
- Peridot
- Peridot Ore in Cold Mythic Caves, overworld, Y -64 to 32, with a deepslate version.
- Citrine
- Citrine Ore in Warm Mythic Caves, overworld, Y -64 to 32, with a deepslate version.
- Topaz
- Topaz Ore in Warm Mythic Caves, overworld, Y -64 to 32, with a deepslate version.
- Ruby
- Ruby Ore in Mythic Rifts, Nether, in netherrack from Y 0 to 128.
- Sapphire
- Sapphire Ore in Mythic Rifts, Nether, in netherrack from Y 0 to 128.
- Jade
- Jade Ore in Mythic Barrens, outer End islands, in end stone from Y 0 to 128.
- Ametrine
- Ametrine Ore in Mythic Barrens, outer End islands, in end stone from Y 0 to 128.
- Mythic Caves cover about 4% of the overworld between Y -60 and 16, in patches around 96 blocks in radius. A cave is cold where the climate above it is below freezing, and warm everywhere else.
- Mythic Rifts cover about 5% of the Nether in patches of the same size. Look for violet fog.
- Mythic Barrens cover about 10% of the outer End, more than 1,024 blocks from the centre, in patches around 176 blocks in radius, under a deep blue sky.
- Every gem ore needs an iron pickaxe or better and drops one gem, more with Fortune. Silk Touch keeps the ore, which smelts into the gem.
We read the chunks our server had generated on 2026-10-25. Mythic Rifts were in about one Nether chunk in twenty. Warm Mythic Caves turned up in 28 times as many overworld chunks as cold ones, so aquamarine and peridot are the gems that take longest to find around spawn: look under snowy and frozen biomes.
Geodes, crystals and shards
Each gem also has a geode, and geodes are not tied to the Mythic biomes. Aquamarine, citrine, peridot and topaz geodes form anywhere in the overworld between six blocks above bedrock and Y 30; ruby and sapphire anywhere in the Nether, jade and ametrine anywhere in the End, between Y 0 and 64. Each kind appears about once in 24 chunks. A geode gives crystal shards; the gems themselves come only from ore.
- A budding block, such as Budding Ruby Crystal, grows small, medium and large buds and then a cluster on each side facing air or water. Bone meal moves one bud a stage.
- Break a cluster with a pickaxe for four shards, more with Fortune, or with another tool for two. Silk Touch keeps the cluster.
- A budding block cannot be moved, even with Silk Touch. Leave it and come back for more clusters.
- Four shards in a square make a crystal block, and a shard with a Cobblestone makes that gem's schist. The building blocks come from the stonecutter.
Homestead adds two recipes of its own (kubejs/server_scripts/cluster_recipes.js): a Block of Crystal crafts back into four shards, and four shards in a diamond shape craft a cluster. They cover every gem but citrine, which the script leaves out. The item pages on this wiki do not list them yet; JEI in game does.
Shards as food and potions
A crystal shard can be eaten even on a full stomach. It gives one hunger point and its gem's armor ability at level III for 90 seconds. In a Brewing Stand a shard turns an awkward potion into that ability's potion.
- Aquamarine shard
- Ice Shield
- Citrine shard
- Static Field
- Topaz shard
- Topaz Reaction
- Peridot shard
- Miasma
- Ruby shard
- Blood Thirst
- Sapphire shard
- Damage Deflection
- Jade shard
- Jade Aura
- Ametrine shard
- Arcane Aura
- Necoium Ingot
- Necoium Share
- The gem potions last three minutes at level III, eight minutes with redstone, or 90 seconds at level V with glowstone.
- Gunpowder makes a splash potion and dragon's breath a lingering one.
- A Fermented Spider Eye turns Ice Shield into Ice Bomb, Ice Bomb into Freeze, Static Field into Charged and Miasma into Lethal Incubation, potions to throw at enemies.
Gem ingots
Every gem ingot is four gems and four Necoium Ingots, crafted shapeless, and the gear's anvil repair material. Nine ingots make a block of the gem and the block crafts back into nine. A Block of Ruby is therefore nine Ruby Ingots.
The Mythic Upgrade Smithing Template
One template is used up for each piece you upgrade.
- Craft two: a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template in the top middle, a Block of Necoium in the centre and seven Necoium Ingots around them.
- Copy one: the same recipe with a Mythic template in place of the netherite one also gives two. Each extra template costs 16 Necoium Ingots.
- Find one: the mod adds a 25% chance of a template to every End City treasure chest.
- The first Netherite Upgrade template comes from a bastion, and seven diamonds with a netherrack copy it.
Upgrading, switching gems and set levels
At a Smithing Table the template goes first, then the base piece, then the gem ingot. The base is a vanilla netherite piece, such as a Netherite Sword, or a piece of any gem. A Ruby Sword with a template and a Sapphire Ingot becomes a Sapphire Sword: the ruby is gone and the enchantments and trim stay.
- Stats
- The same as netherite on every gem: 2,031 durability on tools, armor 3, 8, 6 and 3, toughness 3, 10% knockback resistance, enchantability 15.
- Sapphire
- The one exception: its tools deal one more damage, 9 for the sword and 11 for the axe.
- Set levels
- Each armor piece adds levels to its gem's ability: helmet 2, chestplate 3, leggings 3, boots 2, so ten for a full set. Two pieces of one gem and two of another give both abilities at lower levels.
- Tools
- A tool's ability is the same whatever armor you wear, and every tool of a gem has it.
Mythic gear, obsidian and Advanced Netherite
Homestead 2.0 has three mods that upgrade gear at the smithing table. Read from the pack's own recipes, they line up like this:
- Diamond to obsidian (Obsidian Equipment Reworked): a diamond piece, an Obsidian Ingot blasted from obsidian and an Obsidian Upgrade template make, for instance, an Obsidian Sword.
- Diamond or obsidian to netherite: a netherite ingot and a Netherite Upgrade template. The obsidian step can be skipped.
- Netherite to Mythic: a gem ingot and a Mythic template.
- Netherite to Advanced Netherite: Netherite-Iron, then gold, emerald and Netherite-Diamond, each with a Netherite Upgrade template and an ingot made from the tier below plus four iron ingots, gold ingots, emeralds or diamonds.
The two netherite branches never meet. A Mythic upgrade takes only vanilla netherite or another Mythic piece, and each Advanced Netherite tier takes only the one below it, so a Netherite-Diamond Sword cannot become a Ruby Sword. You choose per piece, and both branches spend Netherite Upgrade templates.
What each gem's armor and tools do
Armor figures are for a full set (level 10), on our server, which runs the mod's default settings. Damage is in health points, two to a heart.
- Aquamarine
- Armor, Ice Shield: whatever hits you in melee is frozen for half a second. Tools: the target is frozen for 0.9 seconds, slowed for three and carries an Ice Bomb for three; if it dies in that time it bursts for 4 HP and freezes everything within five blocks.
- Citrine
- Armor, Static Field: every creature within four blocks takes 2 HP a second, 10% more for each second it stays, and lightning near you is pushed seven blocks away. Tools: a third of each hit jumps to up to three enemies within ten blocks, and a target that dies within three seconds calls down one to three lightning bolts.
- Topaz
- Armor, Topaz Reaction: each hit you take sends a shock wave of 2.5 HP and knockback ten blocks around you. Fall damage is halved and a landing sends a wave too. Tools: every third hit or third block broken sends a wave five blocks out.
- Peridot
- Armor, Miasma: every ten seconds a poison cloud spreads ten blocks around you, at your set level for three seconds, and poison cannot touch you. Teammates and your own pets are spared. Tools: the target is infected for five seconds and if it dies it bursts, poisoning everything within five blocks.
- Ruby
- Armor, Blood Thirst: you heal 30% of any damage a creature within 30 blocks of you takes, from anyone. Tools: you heal 30% of the damage you deal plus 1 HP, and 1 HP for each block you break.
- Sapphire
- Armor, Damage Deflection: half the damage you take goes back to the attacker, plus 5 HP. Tools: each hit adds 5% of the target's maximum health, up to 15 HP, which tells most on bosses.
- Jade
- Armor, Jade Aura: 10% more speed for each armor level and higher jumps without extra fall damage, and a trail that gives Speed and Jump Boost for 15 seconds to whoever walks through it. Tools: hitting, mining or using one gives you Jade Aura V for a second, and a hit has a 5% chance to teleport the target away.
- Ametrine
- Armor, Arcane Aura: when you are hit, everything within ten blocks floats up for 1.5 seconds, higher the more pieces you wear. Tools: the target gets Levitation III for a second, with a 5% chance to be teleported away.
The Forged Fables quests
Homestead's quest book follows this mod in its Forged Fables chapter: 35 Necoium Ingots first, then eight of each gem (each pays back one ingot of that gem), each gem's armor set and tool set, and eight Necoium Carrots. The last quest asks for every piece of every set and 245 Necoium Ore broken, for 5,000 experience and an elytra. A quest in Roots That Run Deep asks for all eight Mythic pickaxes. The whole book is in our Homestead quest guide.
Questions
How do I get ruby in Homestead?
In the Nether. Find a Mythic Rift, a patch with violet fog and red and blue crystal, and mine the Ruby Ore in its netherrack between Y 0 and 128 with an iron pickaxe or better. Each ore drops one ruby, more with Fortune. Ruby geodes elsewhere in the Nether hold only shards.
Where do I get the Mythic Upgrade Smithing Template?
Craft it: a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template, a Block of Necoium and seven Necoium Ingots give two. The same recipe with a Mythic template copies it. End City treasure chests also have a 25% chance of one.
Can I upgrade Advanced Netherite gear to Mythic gear?
No. A Mythic upgrade takes only a vanilla netherite piece or another gem's piece. Keep a plain netherite piece for each one you want to make Mythic.
Can I change my gear from one gem to another?
Yes. Put the Mythic piece in the smithing table with a template and the new gem's ingot. The enchantments and trim stay; the old gem's ingot is not returned.
Where are jade and ametrine?
On the outer End islands, more than 1,024 blocks from the centre, in Mythic Barrens: patches with a deep blue sky where the ores sit in end stone. Their geodes form anywhere in the End.
Why can I not turn a Block of Citrine Crystal back into shards?
Homestead's script that adds that recipe, and the one making a cluster from four shards, lists every gem except citrine. Break citrine clusters with a pickaxe for shards instead.
