Refined Storage

Refined Storage is a mass storage mod for Minecraft that offers the player a network-based storage system, allowing them to store items and fluids on a…
Refined Storage puts all your items in one network. Storage disks sit in a drive, every device joins the same cable, and one Grid shows everything at once, searchable, ready to take out or craft with. It grows into autocrafting, wireless access from anywhere in range, and blocks that place, break, import and export for you. It starts with Quartz Enriched Iron.

Getting started
Three iron ingots and a nether quartz make four Quartz Enriched Iron, the metal of nearly every block. Smelt quartz into Silicon. Eight Quartz Enriched Iron around stone make a Machine Casing, the body of the bigger devices.
Processors come next. String, a slime ball and string make eight Processor Bindings. A binding with silicon, redstone and an iron ingot is a raw basic processor; with gold it is a raw improved one, with a diamond a raw advanced one. Smelt them into the Basic, Improved and Advanced Processors. A basic processor with glowstone is a Construction Core, with quartz a Destruction Core.
- Place a Controller and give it energy.
- Connect a Disk Drive with a 1k Storage Disk in it.
- Add a Grid to see and use what is stored.
- Grow it with more disks, importers and exporters, then patterns and autocrafters.
The network
The Controller powers the whole network; you can have more than one. On ATM10 the network needs energy, and the controller holds 50,000 FE. Every device draws a little of it each tick: a grid 10, a disk drive 10 plus 4 per disk, an importer or exporter 2. Cable itself costs nothing.
Devices join the network through Cable, twelve from six Quartz Enriched Copper, two glass and redstone, or simply by touching each other. Coloured cable only joins cable of its own colour or the default grey, which keeps two networks side by side apart. A Relay switches a whole branch on or off with redstone and decides what of the network it passes on.
Most devices have a redstone mode (always on, on with a signal, on without one), and storage has priorities and an insert and extract mode. The Wrench rotates blocks and, with shift, dismantles them.
Disks and storage
A storage disk holds items in the network's storage; the number on it is how many. A part is made from the part below it: three of them with four processors, Quartz Enriched Iron and redstone. A disk is a part in a Storage Housing, or glass, redstone and Quartz Enriched Iron around the part.
- 1k Storage Disk
- One thousand items. The part is silicon, Quartz Enriched Iron, glass and redstone.
- 4k
- Four thousand. Three 1k parts and four Basic Processors.
- 16k
- Sixteen thousand, from 4k parts.
- 64k
- Sixty-four thousand. Three 16k parts and four Advanced Processors.
- Fluid disks
- From the 64B to the 4096B disk, counted in buckets.
Use an empty disk in your hand to take its part back out, and combine a disk with a bigger part to upgrade it. Storage blocks do the same job without a drive: a part in a block of Quartz Enriched Iron, like the 1k Storage Block. External Storage on a chest or any other inventory adds what is in it to the network. ATM10 also has Extra Disks, for disks far bigger than 64k.
Grids and search
- Grid
- Shows everything in the network to take out and put in.
- Crafting Grid
- A grid with a crafting table in it that pulls ingredients straight from storage. A grid, an Advanced Processor and a crafting table.
- Pattern Grid
- Writes recipes onto Patterns for autocrafting. A grid, an Advanced Processor and a Pattern.
- Wireless Grid
- A grid in your hand, within range of a Wireless Transmitter, running on its own battery.
- Portable Grid
- Reads one disk with no network at all, from your inventory or placed down.
- Storage Monitor
- Shows how many of one item the network holds, and lets you take or add that item by clicking it.
The search box takes plain names and three prefixes: @ for a mod (@mekanism), # for a tag (#ingots) and $ for tooltip text. The grid can sort by name or quantity and keep or clear the search between openings.
Importing, exporting and the world
- Importer
- Pulls items from the inventory it faces into the network. Cable, a Destruction Core and an Improved Processor.
- Exporter
- Pushes the items you set from the network into the inventory it faces. Cable, a Construction Core and an Improved Processor.
- Interface
- An importer and exporter in one block, with slots other machines push into and pull from.
- Constructor
- Places blocks from the network in front of it.
- Destructor
- Breaks the block in front of it into the network; Silk Touch and Fortune upgrades work on it.
- Detector
- Gives a redstone signal when the network holds more, less or exactly a set amount of something.
- Disk Interface
- Empties disks into the network or fills them from it.
Upgrades all start from a blank Upgrade. The Speed Upgrade makes a device work faster and the Stack Upgrade moves more per operation. The Regulator Upgrade makes an exporter only top a target up to an amount, or an importer only take above it, and the Autocrafting Upgrade lets an exporter order what is missing from autocrafting.
Autocrafting
Write a recipe onto a Pattern in the Pattern Grid, then put the pattern in an Autocrafter. For crafting-table recipes that is all. For a machine recipe, face the autocrafter at the machine: it sends the ingredients in and the results come back into the network. Autocrafters facing each other form a chain, so one machine can take more patterns.
Request anything with a pattern from the Grid and it works out the whole tree of sub-recipes for you, showing what is missing first. The Autocrafting Monitor shows running jobs and cancels them, and the Autocrafter Manager puts every autocrafter in one window. Fuzzy mode on a pattern accepts alternatives, like any plank.
Wireless and long distance
- Wireless Transmitter
- Gives wireless grids access around it; each Range Upgrade adds eight blocks, and several transmitters cover a wider area.
- Range Upgrade
- More range for a transmitter. The creative one has no limit, but still not across dimensions.
- Network Transmitter and Receiver
- The Network Transmitter sends the network's signal to a Network Receiver bound with a Network Card, so a second base joins the first without cable. Both need a netherite ingot.
- Security Manager
- Once active it locks the network down, and Security Cards grant each player what they may do: insert, extract, autocraft, open, build, manage.
Questions
How do I make Quartz Enriched Iron?
Three iron ingots and one nether quartz in a crafting grid make four.
Why doesn't my Refined Storage network work?
On ATM10 the network needs energy: a Controller connected to power, and enough of it for every device, which each draw a little every tick. Check that every device touches the network through cable or another device.
How do I upgrade a storage disk?
Combine the disk with the next part up, or empty it and use it in your hand to take the part back out.
How do I search by mod or tag in the Grid?
Start the search with @ for a mod, # for a tag or $ for tooltip text.
How do I autocraft with a machine?
Make a pattern of the machine's recipe in the Pattern Grid, put it in an Autocrafter facing the machine, and get the machine's output back into the network, for example with an Importer.
