What it is

A Nether material for the Alchemist Cauldron, every Empty Upgrade Orb and the Cinderous Soulcaller.

How to get it

  1. Find an Ancient Battleground in the Nether, wherever bastions can generate.
  2. Break an Armor Pile there. It wakes an Ancient Knight.
  3. Kill the knight yourself: it drops one Cinder Essence. Tyros, the Citadel's boss, drops eight to 16.
