Just Dire Things

Just some things that Direwolf20 wanted.
Just Dire Things makes its four materials with goo: a fed goo block slowly turns the Block of Iron, Gold, Diamond or Netherite touching it into ore for Ferricore, Blazegold, Celestigem and Eclipse Alloy. Those build four tiers of tools and armour that take upgrades, plus automation machines, portal guns and time crystals. Start with Primogel Goo: four clay balls, two sugar, two rotten flesh and a dirt block, woken with sugar or rotten flesh.

Goo: the four tiers and how to feed them
A goo block converts the blocks touching it. A freshly placed goo is asleep: right-click it with its food and one item is used to wake it. Then put a block it can convert against any face. All six faces work at the same time, and each conversion takes a fixed time before the block changes.
Each finished conversion has a 10% chance to exhaust the goo, which then shows as Exhausted. Conversions already running still finish, but it starts nothing new until you feed it again. A higher tier does every conversion of the tiers below it, faster.
- Primogel Goo
- Tier 1. Four clay balls, two sugar, two rotten flesh and a dirt block. Food: sugar or rotten flesh. Converts iron blocks and coal or charcoal blocks.
- Blazebloom Goo
- Tier 2, twice as fast. A Primogel Goo with four blaze powder, two redstone dust and two nether wart. Food: nether wart or blaze powder. Adds gold blocks and Primal Coal blocks.
- VoidShimmer Goo
- Tier 3, five times as fast. A Blazebloom Goo with four ender pearls, two end stone and two dragon's breath. Food: chorus fruit or an ender pearl. Adds diamond blocks, Blaze Ember blocks and stabilises portal fluid.
- Shadowpulse Goo
- Tier 4, ten times as fast. A VoidShimmer Goo with four sculk, two sculk shriekers and two echo shards. Food: sculk or a sculk catalyst. Adds netherite blocks, Voidflame Coal blocks and budding amethyst.
Each tier sends you somewhere new: Blazebloom wants Nether ingredients, VoidShimmer wants ender pearls and dragon's breath from the End, and Shadowpulse wants sculk, shriekers and echo shards.
Ferricore, Blazegold, Celestigem and Eclipse Alloy
Every material starts as a vanilla storage block. Goo turns it into a raw ore block, and any pickaxe mines that for three or four of the raw material; Fortune adds nothing, and Silk Touch gives the block back. Smelt or blast the raw pieces into ingots. Celestigem drops as finished gems. A block of nine ingots therefore comes back as three or four of the new material.
- Ferricore
- Block of Iron to Raw Ferricore Ore: 2 minutes with Primogel, 60 seconds with Blazebloom, 24 with VoidShimmer, 12 with Shadowpulse.
- Blazegold
- Block of Gold to Raw Blazegold Ore: 60 seconds with Blazebloom, 24 with VoidShimmer, 12 with Shadowpulse.
- Celestigem
- Block of Diamond to Raw Celestigem Ore: 48 seconds with VoidShimmer, 24 with Shadowpulse.
- Eclipse Alloy
- Block of Netherite to Raw Eclipse Alloy Ore: 24 seconds, Shadowpulse only.
Ferricore makes the first tier of gear, the simple machines but the Swapper, the canisters and the Blank Upgrade. Blazegold makes the second tier, the Simple Swapper, the Fuel Generator, the portal guns and the Polymorphic Catalyst. Celestigem makes the third tier and every other advanced machine. Eclipse Alloy makes the fourth tier, the Advanced Swapper, the Eclipsegate Wand and the Paradox Machine.
- Craft Primogel Goo, feed it and turn iron blocks into Ferricore.
- Upgrade it to Blazebloom Goo with blaze powder and nether wart from the Nether.
- Upgrade that to VoidShimmer Goo with ender pearls, end stone and dragon's breath.
- Upgrade that to Shadowpulse Goo with sculk, sculk shriekers and echo shards.
- Feed it sculk and put a Block of Netherite against it. After 24 seconds, mine the ore and smelt the Raw Eclipse Alloy.
Coal tiers, fuels and power
The coals climb the same way. A block of one coal against the next goo becomes a raw block that drops three or four of the next coal, and nine of those make the block for the step after. Each coal burns three times as long as the one before it in a furnace.
- Primal Coal
- A Block of Coal or a block of charcoal against Primogel Goo. Burns 4,800 ticks.
- Blaze Ember
- A Primal Coal Block against Blazebloom Goo. Burns 14,400 ticks.
- Voidflame Coal
- A Blaze Ember Block against VoidShimmer Goo. Burns 43,200 ticks.
- Eclipse Ember
- A Voidflame Coal Block against Shadowpulse Goo. Burns 129,600 ticks.
The Simple Coal Generator burns any furnace fuel at 15 FE per burn tick, four times faster than a furnace, and each coal tier doubles the speed again: coal gives 60 FE per tick, Primal Coal 120, Blaze Ember 240, Voidflame 480 and Eclipse Ember 960. It sends out up to 1,000 FE per tick. One Eclipse Ember is worth almost two million FE.
The liquid fuels start with Polymorphic Fluid: drop a Polymorphic Catalyst into a water source. Each item dropped into a fluid converts one source block. Blaze Ember dropped into Polymorphic Fluid makes Unrefined Blaze Ember Fuel, and Blazebloom Goo against it refines it. Voidflame Coal dropped into that refined fuel makes the next one, refined by VoidShimmer Goo, and Eclipse Ember dropped into Refined Voidflame Fuel makes the last, refined by Shadowpulse Goo.
The Simple Fuel Generator burns them at 450, 1,300 and 4,000 FE per mB and sends out up to 5,000 FE per tick. The Energy Transmitter passes FE without cables to every block in its area, up to 1,000 FE per tick with a loss of 1% per block of distance, and transmitters in range of each other share their energy with no loss. The Pocket Generator burns coal in your inventory and charges your powered gear at 5,000 FE per tick.
Tools and armour, tier by tier
- Ferricore
- A little better than iron, with durability. Takes the first upgrades.
- Blazegold
- Faster, and Lava Repair: drop the piece into a lava source block and it comes out fully repaired.
- Celestigem
- Runs on 10,000 FE instead of durability. The paxel starts here.
- Eclipse Alloy
- 500,000 FE and the strongest upgrades: Flight, Instant Break, Ore X-Ray, Death Protection.
Every piece can be crafted straight from its material. To move a piece up a tier and keep its upgrades, use a smithing table: the piece, one ingot or gem of the new tier and that tier's template. A template is five ingots or gems around a Blank Upgrade, and a template with two more ingots makes two.
The Celestigem Paxel is a pickaxe, axe and shovel in one: put a Celestigem Pickaxe, Axe and Shovel in a smithing table, and their upgrades carry over. The Eclipse Alloy Paxel is made the same way from the Eclipse Alloy tools, or from a Celestigem Paxel with the Eclipse Alloy template.
Bows hold Potion Canisters: one on Ferricore, two on Blazegold, three on Celestigem, four on Eclipse Alloy. Fill a Potion Canister with potion bottles and its effect goes onto your arrows. Hoes till dirt into the mod's soil. Ferricore makes Primogel Soil, which cannot be trampled and grows crops a little faster. Blazegold makes Blazebloom Soil, faster again, where crops drop their harvest by themselves; the drops despawn quickly, so put an Item Collector nearby. Celestigem makes VoidShimmer Soil, and with Drop Teleport on the hoe the harvest goes straight to the bound inventory.
Shift-right-click a tool to open its settings, and click your armour pieces in that screen to set them too. Left-click an ability to switch it on or off and right-click it for its options and hotkey. Abilities you trigger need a hotkey or a mouse click assigned. V switches a whole tool on or off by default.
Upgrades and where they fit
Every upgrade starts from a Blank Upgrade, four Ferricore Ingots. Put the tool or armour piece and the upgrade in a smithing table to install it; holding shift over a piece lists what it accepts. Abilities that break many blocks at once stop at 64 blocks on Ferricore, 128 on Blazegold, 192 on Celestigem and 256 on Eclipse Alloy on our server.
- Pickaxes
- Ore Miner from Ferricore. Hammer and Smelter from Blazegold. Drop Teleport from Celestigem. Instant Break and Ore X-Ray on Eclipse Alloy. ATM10 switches the Ore Scanner off.
- Axes
- Tree Feller and Leafbreaker from Ferricore. Smelter from Blazegold. Drop Teleport from Celestigem. Instant Break on Eclipse Alloy.
- Shovels
- Sky Sweeper and Lawnmower from Ferricore. Hammer and Smelter from Blazegold. Drop Teleport from Celestigem. Instant Break on Eclipse Alloy.
- Hoes
- Hammer from Blazegold. Drop Teleport from Celestigem.
- Swords
- Mob Scanner from Ferricore to Celestigem. Smoker and Cauterize Wounds from Blazegold. Drop Teleport from Celestigem. Mob X-Ray on Eclipse Alloy.
- Bows
- Potion Arrow on every tier. Splash from Blazegold. Homing and Lingering from Celestigem. Phase and Yondu Arrow on Eclipse Alloy.
- Helmets
- Mind Fog from Ferricore. Stupefy from Blazegold. Night Vision and Water Breathing from Celestigem. Debuff Remover and Mental Obliteration on Eclipse Alloy.
- Chestplates
- Invulnerability from Ferricore. Extinguish from Blazegold. Elytra from Celestigem. Flight, Lava Immunity, Death Protection and Time Protection on Eclipse Alloy.
- Leggings
- Run Speed and Walk Speed from Ferricore. Swim Speed from Blazegold. Decoy from Celestigem. Phase on Eclipse Alloy.
- Boots
- Jump Boost and Step Assist from Ferricore. Ground Stomp from Blazegold. Negate Fall Damage from Celestigem. Earthquake on Eclipse Alloy.
The Hammer mines 3x3 on Blazegold, 5x5 on Celestigem and 7x7 on Eclipse Alloy. Ore Miner breaks every ore touching the one you mine. Drop Teleport sends drops to a chest you bind by shift-right-clicking it with the tool. ATM10 changes the recipe of Ore X-Ray: four Unobtainium Ingots take the place of the four eyes of ender, beside two calibrated sculk sensors and two sculk shriekers.
Machines: breakers, placers, clickers and swappers
Most machines come in two versions. A simple machine needs no power and works on the one block in front of it, every 20 ticks by default and down to every tick. A redstone button sets it to ignore redstone, run only with or without a signal, or act once per pulse. An advanced machine needs power, works on an area you size and move with the RAD and OFF buttons (Render area shows it), filters what it touches, and charges powered items placed in it.
The simple breaker, placer, clicker, sensor, dropper and fluid machines are each four Ferricore, two lapis, a redstone dust, a vanilla block and one more item. Each advanced machine is its simple version with four Celestigem, three eyes of ender and a redstone dust; the Advanced Swapper takes Eclipse Alloy. In a filter, a spawn egg or a Creature Catcher stands for a mob.
- Block Breaker
- Breaks the block in front, or an area. Diamond and observer.
- Block Placer
- Places the blocks from its inventory; the advanced one can be told which blocks to place on. Diamond and dispenser.
- Clicker
- Right-clicks, left-clicks or holds a click with the item in its slot, on blocks, on air or on one kind of mob: a sword for a mob farm, shears, a button. Eye of ender and dispenser.
- Sensor
- A redstone signal when it sees a block (down to a block state, like an open door), air, a kind of mob or an item. The advanced one counts them. Eye of ender and observer.
- Dropper
- Drops one item or up to a stack at a time, with no pickup delay by default. The advanced one drops in the order its filter sets. Redstone and dropper.
- Fluid Collector and Placer
- Pick up and place fluid source blocks. Bucket, with a dispenser or a dropper.
- Swapper
- Two Swappers bound with a Ferricore Wrench swap the blocks or mobs in front of them, chests and machines included, even in different dimensions. Four Blazegold, an eye of ender, two lapis, an observer and a redstone.
- Advanced Swapper
- Swaps whole areas, a house and its contents included.
- Item Collector
- Pulls dropped items in its area into the inventory it is attached to.
- Experience Holder
- Stores your levels, keeps nearby players at a level you choose (30 for enchanting), collects orbs, and works as a tank of XP Fluid at 20 mB per point.
- Player Accessor
- Lets pipes and hoppers reach a player's inventory, each side set to one part such as armour or offhand.
- Inventory Holder
- An armour stand with a whole player inventory. Save each slot as a filter and swap your full loadout in one click.
- Machine Settings Copier
- Shift-right-click a machine to copy its settings, right-click another to paste them.
Portal guns, portal fluid and wands
The Portal Gun is five Blazegold and an eye of ender. Left-click fires a blue portal, right-click an orange one, and players and items go in one and come out of the other. Each shot costs 1,000 FE of its 100,000.
The Advanced Portal Gun saves places in a favourites menu (V by default) and fires a portal to a saved place from anywhere, another dimension included. Fire while crouching to go back to where you last fired from. A shot costs 5,000 FE and Portal Fluid: a quarter mB per block of distance up to 100 mB, and 100 mB to another dimension. It holds 8,000 mB; right-click a Portal Fluid source or use a Fluid Canister to fill it.
- Craft Polymorphic Catalysts (a Blazegold Ingot and a nether wart make four) and drop one into a water source.
- Take Polymorphic Fluid to the End and drop a Portal Fluid Catalyst (four chorus fruit around a lapis) into a source block.
- The Unstable Portal Fluid vanishes at once anywhere outside the End. ATM10 adds Nullscape's Crystal Peaks, Shadowlands and Void Barrens to the biomes where it holds.
- Put VoidShimmer or Shadowpulse Goo against the source. After 24 seconds (12 with Shadowpulse) it is Portal Fluid, stable everywhere.
- Blazejet Wand
- Right-click to blast yourself the way you are looking. No fall damage while you hold it, and Lava Repair.
- Voidshift Wand
- Adds a teleport to the block you are looking at. A Blazejet Wand with a Celestigem and a Blazegold Ingot.
- Eclipsegate Wand
- Adds Eclipse Gate: right-click a block and the blocks around and behind it vanish for a few moments. Chests and other block entities stay.
- Polymorphic Wand
- Turns a mob into a random other mob of the same kind, hostile or peaceful, for 100 mB of Polymorphic Fluid. The advanced one turns any mob into one you saved.
- Creature Catcher
- Throw it to catch a mob and again to let it out. Every mob but the Ender Dragon.
- Totem of Death Recall
- Remembers where you died; hold right-click to go back there, and it is used up.
Time crystals, the Time Wand and the Paradox Machine
- Put Budding Amethyst against fed Shadowpulse Goo. After 24 seconds it is a Budding Time Crystal. It shatters if broken, Silk Touch included.
- Leave it in the Overworld until it changes colour (blue particles). On our server any dimension other than the Nether and the End counts for this step.
- Move it to the Nether (orange particles), then to the End (green). Move it with a pair of Swappers, which work across dimensions.
- Once it turns green, buds grow. Break only fully grown clusters: each gives one Time Crystal. A bud broken early gives nothing.
- When its charge runs out the buds stop growing. Take it back to the Overworld and charge it again, moving the buds with it on an Advanced Swapper, or they shatter.
Nine crystals make a Time Crystal Block, and Shadowpulse Goo turns that into a new Budding Time Crystal, so one budding block can become many. A crystal dropped into Polymorphic Fluid makes Time Fluid.
The Time Wand (two Blazegold, two Ferricore and a Time Crystal) speeds up a block that ticks, such as a furnace, a machine or a crop, for 30 seconds: twice as fast, then four times, doubling with each click up to 128 times on our server (the mod's default is 256). ATM10 also makes it dearer: each click costs 750 FE and half a mB of Time Fluid, both times the new speed, so the click to 128 times alone takes 96,000 of the wand's 100,000 FE. Clickers cannot use it here, and it cannot speed up any Industrial Foregoing Souls block.
The Paradox Machine takes a snapshot of an area and later restores the ore blocks and mobs that were in it, for 250,000 FE and 50 mB of Time Fluid each. Every restore adds 0.25 Paradox Energy, and at 100 a Paradox appears. It grows and swallows blocks, items and mobs for good; throw a Time Crystal into it to seal it. In ATM10 it copies mobs in its strict mode, where most modded mobs do not copy well, and it cannot restore bosses or creatures from Ice and Fire, Occultism or Productive Bees.
Where ATM10 asks for Just Dire Things
- ATM Star
- Three of its parts. Philosopher's Fuel needs a Dark Tank holding 16,000 mB of Refined Eclipse Ember Fuel. Pulsating Black Hole needs a Paradox Machine. Dragon Soul takes a Creature Catcher holding an Occultism dragon familiar, or the familiar's spawn egg.
- Quarry Plus
- An Eclipse Alloy Pickaxe and an Advanced Block Breaker, with four Allthemodium Ingots, an Unobtainium Pickaxe and two productivity upgrades.
- Time in a Bottle
- A Blazegold Pickaxe, one of the five pickaxes in its recipe.
- Soul Laser Base
- 1,000 mB of Unstable Portal Fluid in a Dissolution Chamber, and four Soul Surges take 20 mB. Carried in a tank or bucket it keeps; it only vanishes when poured outside the End.
- Actually Additions oils
- Drop Crystallized Canola Seeds into Refined Canola Oil for Crystallized Oil, and Empowered Canola Seeds into that for Empowered Oil, the same way catalysts go into Polymorphic Fluid.
- Experience bees
- An Experience honeycomb in a Productive Bees centrifuge gives 100 mB of XP Fluid.
Questions
How do I get Eclipse Alloy in ATM10?
Climb the goo tiers to Shadowpulse Goo and feed it sculk or a sculk catalyst. Put a Block of Netherite against it; after 24 seconds it is Raw Eclipse Alloy Ore. Mine it with any pickaxe for three or four Raw Eclipse Alloy and smelt them into ingots.
Why is my goo not converting anything?
Goo is placed asleep and goes back to sleep (Exhausted) after 10% of its conversions. Right-click it with its food: sugar or rotten flesh for Primogel, nether wart or blaze powder for Blazebloom, chorus fruit or an ender pearl for VoidShimmer, sculk or a sculk catalyst for Shadowpulse. Also check the tier: gold needs Blazebloom, diamond VoidShimmer, netherite Shadowpulse.
What are the Just Dire Things goo tiers?
Primogel (iron to Ferricore), Blazebloom (gold to Blazegold), VoidShimmer (diamond to Celestigem) and Shadowpulse (netherite to Eclipse Alloy). Each is crafted from the one before and works two, five and ten times as fast as Primogel.
How do I make Portal Fluid?
Drop a Polymorphic Catalyst into water for Polymorphic Fluid. In the End, drop a Portal Fluid Catalyst into it for Unstable Portal Fluid, which vanishes anywhere else. Put VoidShimmer or Shadowpulse Goo against it and it becomes Portal Fluid, stable everywhere.
How do I get Time Crystals?
Turn budding amethyst into a Budding Time Crystal with Shadowpulse Goo, then charge it in the Overworld, the Nether and the End in that order. Crystal buds then grow on it; break only the fully grown clusters, one crystal each.
How do I move a Budding Time Crystal block?
It cannot be picked up, even with Silk Touch. Use a pair of Swappers bound with a Ferricore Wrench, which work across dimensions; an Advanced Swapper moves the block and its buds together.
How do I upgrade a tool to the next tier without losing its upgrades?
In a smithing table, with the tool, an ingot or gem of the next tier and that tier's template. A template is five ingots or gems around a Blank Upgrade.
Why doesn't the Ore Scanner work in ATM10?
ATM10 switches the Ore Scanner ability off in the server's config. Ore Miner still works on the mod's pickaxes, and the Ore X-Ray upgrade does the scanner's job on an Eclipse Alloy pickaxe or paxel.
